Job Summary:

The Department of Radiology offers an exciting opportunity for a Web Operations Manager to support the nationally renowned University of Wisconsin Department of Radiology. Since its establishment in 1927, the Department of Radiology has been committed to the advancement of human health through innovation in imaging and image-guided therapies. We are proud of the positive impact we have on the patients we serve, the learners we educate, and the research we forge the field with. In addition, 2027 will mark the department’s 100th anniversary and planning has begun for a year-long celebration. A sound digital strategy, including a new department website, is needed to share our accomplishments as well as critical resources with a variety of audiences. Audiences include prospective trainees and faculty, internal department members, researchers, clinicians, and general public.

Reporting to the communications manager, the web operations manager will collaborate with the department’s communications team and vice chair of communications to plan and develop a new intranet and create a strategy for managing the department’s digital properties, including a public website, the intranet and some small websites. The person will be responsible for website performance, administration and management. They will work closely with subject matter experts and the communication team to create and edit content. The web operations manager is expected to provide consultation to internal stakeholders on topics such as digital accessibility and content management.  

Key tasks of the Web Operations Manager include:

  • Managing the soon-to-be launched public website, which is a WiscWeb-hosted WordPress site (Gutenberg editor).

  • Providing digital strategy and project planning for a new intranet, with a focus on improving content, usability and accessibility.

  • Editing and adding web content, consulting with staff and faculty subject matter experts to understand goals and needs, as well as developing and implementing new information architecture.

  • Planning and implementing a proactive process for website content review.

  • Serving as team’s primary digital accessibility expert for the public website and intranet while also providing resources to the department.

  • Connecting with central SMPH groups (i.e. IIT, Digital Design Team) and campus groups (i.e. WiscWeb Team, UW Design Community) to stay current on available resources and best practices.

Additional Information:

  • This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Ensures website functionality and maintains existing website operation including implementing the content management system (CMS), making content updates, conducting content audits, and updating computer programming languages which may include HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
  • Collaborates with others to ensure that the website aligns with brand strategy and meets the unit's standards
  • Ensures website quality, efficiency, and compliance with accessibility, security, privacy, and other university requirements and laws
  • Plans, implements, manages, monitors, and upgrades the unit's websites including intranets
  • Monitors web traffic and website performance, and assesses performance to optimize the website and to identify, prevent, and resolve issues
  • Responds and troubleshoots website issues
  • Strategizes ways to improve the user experience of the website and manages information architecture strategy

Compensation:

The starting salary for the position is $72,000; but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in web operations, front-end development, web design, or user experience design, with demonstrated responsibility for maintaining and improving live websites.

  • Professional experience using a content management system (CMS) in a professional environment to publish, update and manage web content; WordPress experience strongly preferred.

  • Experience conducting accessibility testing and implementing remediation to ensure web content complies with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.0/ 2.1) and applicable accessibility standards.

  • Experience writing web content.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of HTML, CSS, and responsive design.

  • Experience using web analytics and measurement tools, such as Google Analytics and Google Search Console.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree preferred; focus in web design, user experience, communications or a related field preferred
