Job Postings

I am not a current UW-Madison employee. How do I search for job openings?

Start your job search at jobs.wisc.edu. Enter a keyword and click the 'Search' button or click on the ‘Browse All Jobs’ link. When you click on ‘Browse All Jobs’, you can filter your results by location, time type (full-time or part-time), job group, and employment type.

I am a current UW-Madison employee. How do I search for job openings?

Current employees will search for and apply to job openings in the Jobs Hub in Workday. 

How often are job postings updated?

Jobs are added to the website daily.

How long will jobs appear on the site?

Job posting times vary. Please review each job posting for the closing date, which is at the top of the posting. 

Are the posted jobs the only ones available?

Yes, all open faculty and staff positions are posted on jobs.wisc.edu.

Where can I find salary range information for a specific job?

Most job postings advertise salary details. If you have questions about the salary, please call or email the Contact listed on the posting.

Application Process

How do I begin the application process?

Click the 'I am not a current employee' button. Fill in your first and last name and a valid email address in the 'Apply Now' box. Click the red 'Apply Now' button to go to the job application. 

Current UW-Madison employees must click the 'I am a current employee' button to begin the application.

Starting July 7, 2025, you will need to create an account in our new Workday system even if you have applied to UW-Madison previously. Remember your email and password - you will use this information to log in each time you apply to a job.

Review the ‘How to Apply’ section of the job posting before you start the application process to ensure you have the required application materials ready.

How long does it typically take to complete the application?

Most users complete the application process in 20-30 minutes.

Can I start the application now and finish it at a later time?

Yes, at any point in the application process, you can click on the ‘save and exit’ button at the bottom of the page. To complete your application later, log in to your applicant account and click on the job title of the application you wish to finish. You must finish and submit your application by the application closing date to be considered for the job.

Will late applications be accepted?

No, late applications are not accepted. If you have questions, please reach out to the contact listed on the job.

Do I have to apply for a specific job to be considered for a job at UW–Madison?

Yes, you must apply for each job you are interested in.

Can I apply to multiple jobs at once?

No, you must complete a separate application for each job you are interested in. To do this, click on the ‘Apply Now’ button found on each job posting.

Is there a limit to the number of jobs I can apply for?

No, there is no limit to the number of jobs to which you can apply.

What information will I need when applying for a job?

Review the ‘How to Apply’ section of the job posting before you start the application process to ensure you have the required application materials. Many job postings require a resume and cover letter to be submitted. Sometimes additional materials, such as the names and contact information for references, or a copy of a specific licensure, are required. You will upload all required documents in the 'Application Materials' section of the application.

Can I email or physically mail my resume and cover letter instead of the online application?

No, you must apply online. If you need assistance applying online, please contact uwjobs@wisc.edu.

What if I do not have a resume?

Some jobs may not require a resume. Refer to the ‘How to Apply’ section on the job posting to see which application materials are required. If a resume is required, you must submit a resume to be considered for the job. If you do not have a resume, there are many online resources to help you create one, including: resume.com, resumebuilder.com, and zety.com/resume-builder.

What file formats are acceptable to submit my resume and/or cover letter?

Workday supports a range of file formats, such as .pdf, .doc, .xls, .mp4, .png, .jpg, and .ppt. 

To whom should I address my cover letter?

You do not need to address your cover letter to a particular individual unless indicated in the ‘How to Apply’ section on the job posting.

How do I know that my application was successfully submitted?

After you apply, you will receive a confirmation message on your screen and an email acknowledging the receipt of your application. Your applicant account will display submitted applications.

Can I withdraw my application once I have submitted it for a job?

Yes, you may withdraw an application. Next to the job you wish to withdraw from, click the 3-dot action menu and choose 'Withdraw Application.'

I am receiving an error message when submitting my application.

You may receive an error message if you have not completed all the required information. You are required to complete all fields in the application that have an asterisk (*). You will not be able to submit your application if you do not complete all required fields.

I made a mistake in my application. How can I correct it?

Changes to your personal information, such as your name, email address, phone number, and home address can be made in your applicant account, under ‘Settings’. To make changes to your application materials before the application closing date, call or email the contact listed in the job posting. If the deadline has passed and you cannot locate the job contact, email uwjobs@wisc.edu.

Can I check the status of my application?

As you progress through the recruitment process, the application status will be updated in your applicant account. If you have additional questions about your application status, please call or email the contact listed in the job posting.

When will I hear back after I apply for a job?

Recruitment timelines vary. If you have questions regarding the timeline, please call or email the contact listed in the job posting.

Where can I find contact information for the hiring department?

Contact information for the hiring department is in the job posting. If you have already applied for the job and it is no longer listed on jobs.wisc.edu, log in to your applicant account and click on ‘View Application’ from the 3-dot actions menu to find the contact name.

Accessibility and Accommodation

I have a disability and need assistance to apply for a job. How do I request an accommodation?

Please contact the Divisional Disability Representative (DDR) in the division you are applying for a job in to request an accommodation for any step in the hiring process (e.g., application, interview, pre-employment testing, etc.). Please make your request as soon as possible to help the university respond most effectively to your request.

Technical Questions

I’m not receiving emails from the applicant system when submitting my application or other times when I should, what should I do?

Please check the email in your applicant profile to make sure it is correct. If correct, check your spam/junk folders, or make our system a trusted email address with your email server.
