Job Summary:

UW Veterinary Care (UWVC) is excited to welcome dedicated veterinary technician assistants to our Kennels team. This vital role will support the cleaning of our animal holding spaces and patient care areas, ensure infectious disease controls are followed per established policies and procedures, and assist in maintaining the UWVC facility and inventory.

This position can be full or part-time, between 50-100% FTE.

Working hours will fall between 6:00am – 8:00pm Monday through Friday and 8:00am – 6:00pm on Saturday and Sunday. Schedule options will be discussed with candidates and agreed upon during the hiring process.

Weekends are required for this position.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Handles and transports biological samples (5%)

  • Cleans and maintains organization of animal holding spaces, work areas and equipment (60%)

  • Cleans and maintains radioactive areas (5%)

  • Communicates effectively with hospital services to ensure all hospital needs are being met (5%)

  • Documents and disseminates results to the appropriate entities (5%)

  • Assists with and executes the preparation, completion, and documentation of basic technical animal care procedures, assessments, and medication administration according to established care plans and medical necessity (0%)

  • Assists with routine laboratory tests and specimen collection according to established medical orders and care plans (0%)

  • Maintains organization of and updates records related to medical procedures and billing (0%)

  • Inventories and organizes supplies (10%)

  • Monitors cleanliness inside and outside of the small animal hospital (5%)

  • Serves as a point of contact for animal owners and stakeholders providing information and answering questions (5%)

Compensation:

The starting hourly rate for the position is $19.00 (but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications).

Required Qualifications:

  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds independently

  • Physical and manual dexterity to perform specialized technical tasks

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Animal handling experience

Education:

  • High School Diploma Required

  • Associates Degree Preferred
