Job Summary:
Research Animal Resources and Compliance (RARC) provides veterinary care for nearly all the research animals on campus. The Veterinary Technician Supervisor (VTS) serves the animal research community on campus by performing veterinary technician duties and managing up to 10 RARC veterinary technicians. The VTS manages the work schedules, including weekend and holiday duties, independently plans, implements and adjusts technician responsibilities according to program needs, and conducts performance evaluations and other managerial duties for the veterinary technicians at RARC. This position also examines research animals, communicates with veterinarians, performs animal treatments, documents in medical records, prepares animals for procedures, and may perform anesthesia procedures and euthanasia. The VTS also performs additional administrative tasks to manage and support the animal program.
Responsibilities:
Supervises and executes technical work within a specified animal care unit, and/or develops and enforces procedures and protocols, and manages personnel to ensure attainment of organization goals.
- 30% Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees
- 20% Schedules logistics and secures resources to ensure adequate staffing, equipment, and supplies to ensure optimal operation of a designated animal care unit
- 5% Prepares, completes, and documents technical animal care procedures, assessments, and medication administration according to established care plans and medical necessity
- 5% Develops animal care procedures, protocols, and affiliated reference materials to ensure compliance with established rules and regulations
- 25% Provides nursing animal care for patients and works alongside other veterinary technicians in the unit
- 15% Performs additional administrative duties to manage and support the animal program.

Qualifications:
A CVT license is preferred, however, 7-10 years experience providing clinical care to animals may be considered in lieu of licensure. Experience in a research setting is preferred but not required. Supervisory experience is required. The VTS must be comfortable and proficient using electronic applications, databases and methods of communication.

Flexibility of hours are between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm Monday through Friday. Some weekend and holiday hours are required.

Expected pay range for this position is $30.50 - $35.34 per hour ($63,440 - $73,507 per year).
Additional Information:
A successful applicant will be responsible for ensuring eligibility for employment in the United States on or before the effective date of the appointment. University sponsorship is not available for this position.
The VTS must be able to comply with entry requirements for specialized animal facilities including, but not limited to health screening, periodic tuberculosis testing, vaccinations, and have the ability to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) (e.g. mask, respirator, etc.) as required by SOPs or policies.
