Teaching and Learning Librarian

Job Summary:

The Teaching & Learning Librarian position, located in the UW-Madison Libraries' Teaching & Learning Programs office, works as part of a team to develop and teach in-person information literacy instruction sessions primarily for undergraduate general education courses. This position also contributes to the office's Online Learning Team, assisting with the development, assessment, and maintenance of a growing collection of online learning objects that support student research and learning.

In addition, this position collaborates with staff in the Libraries' Teaching & Learning Programs office and with other library instruction staff to develop and conduct assessment of student learning, and create documentation and develop best practices in support of the Libraries' instruction program.

This is an entry-level position. Candidates with demonstrated interest in instruction and online learning are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will be provided with professional development, training, and mentoring to support their growth in these areas.

Responsibilities:

Provides a wide variety of professional library services which may include the areas of teaching, learning, public services, circulation, reference, selection, and outreach to support creative exploration, intellectual growth and, scholarly pursuits. Provides input on policies and procedures to contribute to services and operations and assist in continual service improvement and innovation.

• 5% Serves as a liaison to academic disciplines and/or other campus units providing information on collections, instructional and research support, and library services
• 5% Cultivates and maintains productive relationships with vendors and professional colleagues
• 5% Obtains materials, resolves issues, and answers questions particularly related to situations that are complex in nature
• 35% Designs, develops, and delivers instruction in a variety of formats to faculty, staff, students, and other patrons
• 15% Assists with the coordination of day-to-day functions of one or more library operations or services
• 10% Provides specialized services utilizing a high level of expertise on a broad range of disciplines or in a designated discipline area
• 5% Contributes to the development of policies and procedures
• 5% Serves on committees to advance librarianship at the campus, local, and/or state levels
• 15% Contribute to the development, maintenance, and assessment of online learning content as a member of the Online Learning Team

Tasks:

• Provides instruction services for undergraduate general education courses by designing, developing, and delivering library instruction in a variety of formats, including online.
• Collaborates on assessment and evaluation of library instruction, primarily for foundational research and general education courses.
• Uses strong written and verbal communication skills to facilitate successful project management.
• Participates actively on library committees related to instruction and areas of interest.
• Keeps current with developments in pedagogy, librarianship, online instruction, and relevant technology via engagement in professional organizations and professional development.
• Assists with the coordination of day-to-day tasks related to Library instruction services, including scheduling, referrals, and maintaining statistics.

Education:

Required:
Master's Degree. MA/MS in Library/Information Studies, Education, Instructional Design, or equivalent degree

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:
-Demonstrated interest in or experience with in-person instruction
-Demonstrated interest in or experience with online instruction or development of online learning resources
-Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment

Preferred Qualifications:
-Interest in exploring and learning new technology
-Strong communication skills in a team or group context
-Demonstrated interest in or experience with public speaking or leading training

Work Type:

Full Time: 100%

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.

Typical work hours (M-F). Hybrid. Expected onsite minimum 20%, with more onsite work during times of heavy instruction.
