Job Summary:

The Student Organization Advising Specialist's principal duties will be to assist with Registered Student Organization (RSO) advising, development, accountability, and registration. This position will provide services, programs, and support for RSOs, their members, advisors, and UW affiliated departments. Additionally, this position may assist with campus administration of the Wisconsin Involvement Network (WIN), powered by the Anthology Engage software platform as well as have supervision responsibilities for student staff at the undergraduate and/or graduate level. This position will reside in the Student Activity Center and will share in some operational and coverage responsibilities, some evening hours will be required.

Responsibilities:

Oversees the daily management of programs, services, activities, facilities, policies and/or processes in order to support student success in various areas of student affairs. Works under broad, administrative direction with significant responsibility for assigned area(s) of responsibility. Responds to inquiries from University departments, educational institutions, the community, and/or external agencies. Strives to create a welcoming, equitable, and inclusive work environment.
  • 40% Plans, organizes, administers, and manages processes and operations related to assigned area(s) of responsibility
  • 10% Monitors, evaluates, and modifies processes, procedures, and/or standards, ensuring alignment with the Institution's mission, values, goals, and objectives, as well as all local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
  • 20% Advises and enforces Institution policies related to services in Student Affairs
  • 5% Serves as the program or unit liaison to internal and external stakeholder groups
  • 5% Schedules logistics and secures resources to support the operational plans of the program or unit
  • 20% May exercise supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 FTE or equivalent employees

Qualifications:

Required:
* Experience in providing advising to or supervision of college level students in a higher education or non-profit setting
* Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
* Skilled use of Microsoft Office products including Excel and Outlook
* Experience with policy and guideline interpretation and application
Preferred:
* Familiarity with Anthology's Engage (or another student engagement) software platform
* Experience with student organization advising

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

The mission of the Center for Leadership & Involvement is to cultivate and engage students through practical leadership skill development and involvement experiences. The Center for Leadership & Involvement (CfLI) is housed within the Wisconsin Union and is a department within Student Affairs at the University of Wisconsin - Madison. The office is responsible for registering, advising, and providing support for more than 1000 student organizations of wide-ranging interest. CfLI also offers a variety of leadership programs. The Wisconsin Union operates from several buildings on the UW-Madison campus including Memorial Union, Union South, Fluno Center, Pyle Center, University Club, Red Gym, and the Student Activity Center. The Wisconsin Union is a financially self-supporting division of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Financial support for the organization is provided by income earned by over thirty food service units and a variety of nonfood units such as games, guest rooms, space rentals and campus vending. Substantial support is also provided by student fees. The total annual organizational budget is approximately $60 million dollars. Student Affairs is led by the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs.
