Job Summary:
The School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH) is seeking a Space Management Assistant Director who will work in partnership with the Senior Associate Dean for Basic Research, Biotechnology and Graduate Studies to direct and manage allocation of the school's physical space. The SMPH has a footprint of over 2 million square feet across multiple buildings and leased spaces. The Assistant Director will assist in the development of a strategic space management analysis; implementation of a model to address long-term space allocation needs; and advancement of sustainable solutions. The Assistant Director will serve as the SMPH space management liaison to the school's departments/centers/units, UW-Madison's Space Management Office, and UW Health.
Reporting to the Senior Associate Dean for Basic Research, Biotechnology and Graduate Studies, the Assistant Director engages in strategic planning to ensure the office effectively supports the needs of the school's faculty, staff, learners and external partners. The Assistant Director ensures that policies, procedures, and standards are maintained and develops processes and procedures to improve the school's space management operations. The Assistant Director designs, implements and evaluates operations to align with the office's strategic direction, particularly those related to space management.
This position will establish an accurate record of how space is currently allocated, analyze space usage, and make recommendations to the senior associate dean for improved efficiency and productivity of space. This position will also oversee implementation of Facilities Management Systems (FM:Systems), an industry-standard software used by UW Health and soon to be implemented by UW-Madison.
Responsibilities:
Assists in the development and implementation of facilities planning initiatives and guides the work of staff responsible for collecting, organizing, verifying, and reporting facilities data to provide informed solutions promoting the effective utilization of resources and provide facility planning solutions.
- 15% Assists with the development and execution of strategic facilities planning analysis and research to determine long term facility needs
- 25% Schedules logistics and secures resources to resolve institutional facility issues, recommending alternatives where necessary
- 10% Serves as the unit liaison to internal and external stakeholder groups providing organizational information to ensure timely and safe transitioning of major construction or remodeling projects
- 20% Assists with developing operating policies and procedures to comply with regulations, best practices, and institutional objectives
- 10% Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees
- 20% Work in partnership with the Senior Associate Dean for Basic Research, Biotechnology and Graduate Studies to direct and manage allocation of the school's physical space

The starting salary for the position is $96,220 but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.
