Job Summary:
The Scientist III will play a leadership role in the UW Statistical Data Analysis Center (SDAC) by leading study teams providing independent statistical data analysis to Independent Data Monitoring Committees serving to monitor the safety of industry sponsored clinical trials. The SDAC Scientist III leads by preparing data sets, analyzing them using data science techniques, and presenting the results. They will directly supervise study staff.

Key Job Responsibilities:
- Serves as an institutional subject matter expert and liaison with key internal and external stakeholders providing expert level information and representing the interests of a specialized research area
- Identifies research problems and develops highly complex research methodologies and procedures. Publishes and presents results to help advance research
- May supervise the day-to-day activities of a research unit and staff and resolve routine personnel issues
- Identifies, writes, or assists in developing grant opportunities, grant applications, and proposals to secure research funding
- Attends and assists with the facilitation of scholarly events and presentations in support of continued professional development and the dissemination of research information
- Conducts literature reviews, prepares reports and materials and, disseminates information to appropriate entities
- Monitors program budget and approves unit expenditures
- Collects and analyzes highly complex research data, conducts experiments and interviews, and documents results according to established policies and procedures

The Department of Biostatistics and Medical Informatics (BMI) is a highly collaborative basic science department in the UW-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH). UW News and World Report recently ranked BMI as the 11th best program in the country, tied with the University of Minnesota-Minneapolis. BMI serves as the SMPH home for data science, including research at the basic, translational, and clinical levels; graduate, professional, and health professions education; and service to the broader community with a goal of building foundational knowledge, and improving clinical care and human health.
Department faculty and research staff collaborate broadly, both in SMPH and across the UW-Madison campus. The research staff provide significant support to investigators in preparing proposals, designing statistical approaches and clinical trials, analyzing data, and helping investigators prepare and submit reports and manuscripts for publications.
The department is home to two clinical trial programs, the Statistical Data Analysis Center (SDAC) and the Data Coordinating Center (DCC). SDAC conducts arms-length analysis of industry clinical trial data in support of Data Safety Monitoring Boards (DSMBs) and is considered the gold standard for such work.
Compensation:
The starting salary for the position is $90,000 annually; but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.

Education:
PhD in biostatistics, or closely related quantitative discipline, is required
