Job Summary:

If you are organized, have research project management or coordination experience and enjoy working with people, consider joining our human-centered, compassionate, and innovative team of nurse scientists. This position will work within the Montgomery Research Team (https://montgomerylab.wiscweb.wisc.edu/), led by Kitty Montgomery, PhD, RN, PCNS-BC, and support ongoing studies focused on understanding and addressing the physical and psychological symptoms associated with cancer and its treatment. Aligned with the School of Nursing’s Signature Areas of Symptom Science and Palliative Care and Children, Families, and Reproductive Health, Dr. Montgomery’s research program aims to improve the care and well-being of children with cancer through both qualitative and quantitative methods. Current studies involve recruiting English- and Spanish-speaking children, adolescents, and adults living with cancer and collecting self-report, proxy-report, and clinical data. The grant portfolio includes a multi-year NIH R01.

This position will be responsible for coordinating the daily activities of Dr. Montgomery’s research studies by organizing the research team, co-leading research team meetings, assuring compliance with federal and institutional regulations, implementing study procedures, and maintaining regular communications among research staff, UW Carbone Cancer Center staff, and personnel at other participating clinical sites. Other duties include assisting with study recruitment and retention, training team members, mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, participating in data analysis, and writing reports, study manuscripts, and grant proposals.

This position may be part-time or full-time, 80-100%. Starting FTE is negotiable within that range.

This position is eligible for the following: partial remote work (hybrid schedule) or 100% on-site work. The person in this position may request and be considered for a formal remote work agreement based on guidelines set forth by the School of Nursing, and/or may be provided with remote work flexibility as needed and approved by the supervisor. A remote work agreement may allow for a maximum of 40% remote work per week.

This position may require occasional evening and weekend work as well as travel approximately once per year for research meetings.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Monitors program budget(s) and approves unit expenditures
  • Develops policies, procedures, and institutional agreements on behalf of the program
  • Coordinates the daily activities and contracts related to one or more research program(s)
  • Serves as a unit liaison and subject matter expert among internal and external stakeholder groups, collaborates across disciplines and functional areas, provides program information, and promotes the accomplishments and developments of scholars and research initiatives
  • Assists in the development, coordination, and facilitation of trainings and workshops for internal and external audiences to disseminate research program developments and information
  • Plans, develops, and implements processes and protocols to support research aims

This position has been identified as a position of trust with access to vulnerable populations.  The selected candidate will be required to pass an initial caregiver check to be eligible for employment under the Wisconsin Caregiver Law and every four years.

Compensation:

The minimum starting salary for this position is $70,000. Actual salary will be negotiated based on experience and qualifications. If hired at a part-time FTE, actual salary earned will be prorated based on FTE (full-time status).

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience working on research studies, ideally in biomedical or health science human subjects’ research, and with research coordination

  • Experience with IRB/human subjects protection

  • Experience with federal and institutional research compliance and monitoring

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Strong organizational and leadership abilities

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with grant budget management

  • Experience managing multisite research projects

  • Experience managing federal grants

  • Experience supervising staff

  • Strong knowledge of UW–Madison systems and policies related to purchasing and grant management

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, REDCap, and Clinicaltrials.gov

  • Spanish fluency (both oral and written)

Education:

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in a field relevant to human subjects’ research project management or coordination (e.g., health sciences, social sciences, health administration, etc.).

Preferred

  • Master’s degree in a related field is preferred.
