Job Summary:
This is an 80-100% FTE direct patient care position caring for UW-Madison students by providing screening, assessment, and nutritional counseling or appropriate referrals regarding health/nutritional needs. The role requires:1) expertise in providing nutrition counseling to adolescent and young adults including care of patients with eating disorders, 2) strong understanding of the university setting and the diverse backgrounds and needs of the student community 3) maintaining professional competency and skills required for professional practice.
This position supports healthy lifestyle choices and health maintenance throughout the campus community through participation in and contributions to appropriate campus initiatives and serve as a resource to UHS medical, mental health, and prevention staff members on nutrition related topics.
Additional duties may include teaching/precepting health sciences student learners/trainees, developing and facilitating group classes, creating educational materials, guest lecturing for nutrition classes or informal groups, being available to students for interviews (class projects or student media), and engaging in other outreach activities.
Duties are performed under the general supervision of the Associate Director of Gynecology and Specialty Clinics.
90% Direct Clinical Care
-Conduct comprehensive nutrition assessments, interpret biochemical and clinical data, and monitor those at nutritional risk, with a special emphasis on the disordered eating population
-Develop treatment plan based on nutrition assessment; student concerns may include eating disorders and disordered eating, diabetes, GI concerns, hypertension, abnormal blood lipids, weight concerns using an anti-diet approach, sports nutrition, vegetarian diets and food intolerances
-Collaborate and communicate with community MDs, therapists, or area hospitals when indicated on nutritional/behavioral plans for students receiving treatment outside of UHS. Evaluate effectiveness of nutritional recommendations and revise as needed upon follow-up
-Make appropriate notations and recommendations in the student's electronic medical record
10% Other duties
-Support student organizations and assist them in implementing nutrition related campus initiatives and outreach programming.
-Participate in university-organized health events and collaborate with clinical staff on preventative healthcare topics for the campus community and topics relevant to University Health Services
-Participate in Continuous Quality Improvement activities at UHS
-Participate in UHS committees and workgroups as requested
-Represent UHS within the UW-Madison campus, Madison community, and local, regional, and national professional organizations
Responsibilities:
Provides nutrition education and counseling including assessment and treatment plan design in a clinical, research, or public health and safety setting to improve health and wellness.
- 40% Evaluates nutritional needs and treatment readiness and develops, coordinates, and disseminates treatment plans for patients and their families in collaboration with medical professionals and other partners
- 10% Completes reports related to nutritional treatment, patient planning, and/or medical care according to established policies and procedures
- 40% Teaches patients and support systems about proper nutrition and helps develop strategies to cope with nutritional needs and problems
- 5% Recommends referrals, schedules logistics, and secures resources for patients to receive medical care or various program assistance
- 5% Develops and schedules operational work plans and may provide expertise and training and guidance to staff, the community, peers, and/or students

Required:
--2 years clinical experience
--Ability to work effectively within interdisciplinary teams including medical and mental health professionals while also being able to work independently
Preferred:
--2 years or more of clinically supervised experience working with patients with a variety of eating disorders including, but not limited to, restrictive eating, bulimia, binge eating disorder
--2 years or more experience working with a young adult/college population
License/Certification:

RD - Registered Dietitian - Must hold or be eligible to obtain a Registered Dietitian License for the State of Wisconsin at time of start date
