Job Summary:

Join a dedicated team at the University of Wisconsin–Madison’s newest student support hub. As a Program Coordinator in the First-Generation and Limited-Income Services office, you will utilize your expertise to develop and implement programs that enhance the learning experience, sense of belonging, and overall success of first-generation and low-income (FGLI) students. You will lead the design, coordination, and delivery of initiatives aimed at building campuswide capacity to support FGLI Badgers. This role demonstrates a strong commitment to fostering a welcoming, equitable, and inclusive environment for students, colleagues, and campus partners.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Support, supervise, and actively mentor student interns, fostering their personal and professional development, while cultivating a collaborative and growth-oriented team environment

  • Generates and analyzes reports of curricular and unit outcomes
  • Creates and maintains schedules, logistics, and resources for one or multiple student affairs programs, activities, and/or services
  • Designs, implements, and evaluates programming, resources, and services that strengthen belonging, well being, and academic success for first-generation and limited-income students. Proactively identifies structural and cultural barriers impacting FGLI student experiences and develops responsive, equity driven strategies to advance access, retention, and overall student thriving.

  • Writes, edits, and publishes content for various communication projects and marketing platforms to align with strategic initiatives and established communication campaigns
  • Develops programming, resources, and services to foster a sense of belonging, promote student well-being, and address barriers to success for first-gen and limited- income students

  • Organizes student-focused programming and resources to promote new and ongoing educational initiatives
  • Serves as a subject matter expert regarding student affairs to internal and external stakeholders
  • Provides high-quality support, supervision, and mentorship to student interns, intentionally fostering their personal, academic, and professional growth. Cultivates a collaborative, identity affirming, and development focused team environment that empowers interns to meaningfully contribute to FGLI Services mission

Department:

Student Affairs, Student Success and Belonging, First-Generation and Limited-Income Services 

First-Generation and Limited-Income (FGLI) Services is a central hub for connection, support, and success for students who are the first in their families to attend college or come from limited-income backgrounds. The office provides a welcoming space where students can build community, explore campus opportunities, and access resources designed specifically for first-generation and limited-income Badgers. In addition, FGLI Services offers training and professional development across campus to equip faculty, staff, and student workers with the knowledge and skills needed to better support FGLI students. Through programs, events, and collaborative initiatives, the unit fosters belonging and empowers both current and future first-generation and limited-income students to succeed academically, personally, and professionally.

FGLI Services is part of Student Affairs at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, led by the vice chancellor for student affairs. Our staff is dedicated to serving students and to helping them succeed in and out of the classroom in areas including health and well-being, student success and belonging, leadership and engagement, and student advocacy.

Compensation:

The expected minimum starting salary for this position is $50,000.00 annually. Actual pay will depend on experience and qualifications. This position offers a comprehensive benefits package, including generous paid time off, competitively priced health/dental/vision/life insurance, tax-advantaged savings accounts, and participation in the nationally recognized Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS) pension fund. Required Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years of experience in program coordination, event planning, and/or workshop facilitation in student affairs or related field

  • Exceptional interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills

  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities with precision and attention to detail

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and solve problems creatively, while collaborating effectively with varied stakeholders

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and familiarity with learning management systems such as Canvas

  • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of best practices in creating inclusive and welcoming environments for first-generation and limited-income students

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across functional areas and contribute to a dynamic team environment

  • Experience with software platforms for registration, surveys, and communication (e.g., Constant Contact, Qualtrics, etc.)

  • Experience with University of Wisconsin policies, procedures, and administrative systems related to job functions

Education:

Required: Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field (e.g., higher education administration, social work)

Preferred: Master's degree in a relevant field (e.g., higher education administration, social work)
