Job Summary:
The Waisman Center is dedicated to the advancement of knowledge about human development, developmental disabilities, and neurodegenerative diseases throughout the lifespan. One of 15 centers of its kind in the United States, the Waisman Center encompasses laboratories for biomedical and behavioral research, several scientific research cores, and a clinical biomanufacturing facility for the production of pharmaceuticals for early stage human clinical trials. In addition to its research efforts, the Center provides an array of services to people with developmental disabilities, offers numerous educational and outreach programs to young children and their families, and trains scientists and clinicians who will serve our nation in the future.
The Occupational Therapist is a staff member of the Communication Aids and Systems Clinic/Communication Development Program (CASC/CDP), part of the Developmental Disabilities and Genetics Clinical Services unit, University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD), at the Waisman Center. This position will work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team with speech-language pathologists and community team members to provide specialized, family- centered, team-oriented occupational therapy services. As part of the Communication Aids and Systems Clinic (CASC) activities, in addition to clinical duties, the occupational therapist will maintain an equipment library, provide in-patient consultations, support mentorship of students, and participate in community outreach.
Responsibilities:
Evaluates patients and environments, and develops, administers and tracks progress of occupational therapy treatment plans to promote the wellbeing and health of patients and enable participation in daily life activities. Provides occupational therapy and rehabilitative services to clients in a clinical, research, or public health and safety setting to support health and wellness. Evaluates, administers, and develops treatment plans for clients.
- 35% Administers rehabilitation treatments, assists in the development of treatment plans, evaluates patient conditions and medical history, and instructs on treatment procedures according to established policies and procedures in collaboration with clinical staff and physicians
- 15% Evaluates patient work or home environment and assesses ability to perform daily living activities; and provides modification recommendations to environments or activities to support daily living activities
- 15% Completes reports of patient activities and progress for billing and reporting in compliance with established rules an regulations
- 15% Serves as a subject matter expert to patients and internal and external stakeholders providing occupational therapy information to promote the health and well-being of patients
- 10% Analyzes and adapts activities to support participation in desired life activities
- 5% May provide expertise, training, and guidance to the community, peers, and/or students
- 5% Contributes to core functions of the University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD), including activities of training/teaching, conducting research, disseminating evidence and best practices, and demonstrating model services.

Education:
Required
Master's Degree in Occupational Therapy (OT).
Preferred
Terminal Degree
A Doctoral degree in Occupational Therapy is desirable.
Qualifications:
Qualified candidates have the required experience:
- Experience with assistive technology (AT) assessment and interventions that include augmentative and alternative communication (AAC).
- Ability to execute diagnostic evaluation and establish a plan of care.
- A desire to advance knowledge related to AAC in the field of occupational therapy.
- Familiarity with mounting and switch technology and establishing access methods for individuals with complex disabilities is essential
- Experience with diverse populations of children and adults with developmental and acquired disabilities including motor and sensory impairments (e.g., cortical visual impairment).
Well qualified candidates have the preferred experience:
- Individuals who are self-initiated learners and have creative problem-solving skills are highly preferred.
- Knowledge of funding process for securing assistive technology and AAC.
- Ability to identify appropriate switches, mounting, seating and positioning technology to support communication access
- One to two years of experience in this area is preferred.

Must be licensed or eligible for licensure in the State of Wisconsin as an Occupational Therapist.
Work Type:
Full or Part Time: 50% - 100%
It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.
Appointment Type, Duration:
Terminal, 4 month appointment.
This position has the possibility to be extended or converted to an ongoing appointment based on need and/or funding
Salary:
Minimum $51,955 ANNUAL (12 months)

Additional Information:
A Criminal Background Check will be performed.
Must complete HIPAA and receive certification within the first 5 days of employment and annually thereafter.
Reporting requirements must be completed in a timely manner, including but not limited to effort reporting and outside activities reporting.
Must maintain and renew licensure in the State of Wisconsin as an Occupational Therapist as required.
The typical work schedule will be 8am - 5pm Monday through Friday. Occasional evening, weekend work and travel is expected for training and presentations.
