Job Summary:

University Health Services (UHS) is seeking a Medical Assistant to join our dynamic and collaborative team. We currently have an opening within our Gynecology and Sexual Health clinic, where you will provide direct patient care to students at the University of Wisconsin–Madison.

As a Medical Assistant at UHS, you will play a key role in supporting providers and nurses while helping to ensure efficient clinic operations. You’ll work alongside an interdisciplinary team and have opportunities to gain experience not only in gynecology and sexual health, but also in primary care and community health settings.

What You’ll Do

Responsibilities may include:

  • Administering and reading TB skin tests

  • Administering injections

  • Assisting providers with clinical procedures

  • Serving as a chaperone during sensitive exams

  • Responding to patient messages and tasks through the electronic health record (EHR)

  • Documenting patient care in the EHR

  • Performing routine vital signs and patient intake

  • Cleaning exam rooms

  • Managing inventory and ordering clinical supplies and equipment

  • Conducting point-of-care testing (e.g., urine dipstick, pregnancy tests)

This is a full‑time position. Regular working hours between 8:00am-5:00pm, Monday-Friday.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Prepares and cleans examination rooms, instruments, and equipment for specific procedures
  • Performs routine vital signs, basic tests, assists with minor procedures, and administers medications as directed by a supervising clinician
  • Escorts patients to various hospital locations and delivers, orders, and inventories general clinic supplies
  • Collects, prepares, and delivers specimens for laboratory analysis
  • Performs administrative duties such as scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records, assisting patients with billing, and coding information and answering basic medical questions

UHS Medical Services provides high quality medical services to UW-Madison students with specialties in primary care, gynecology, sexual health, travel medicine, allergy and immunization, and physical therapy. Our clinicians also provide a wide range of preventative care in support of the UHS overarching mission of promoting students' academic and personal success through an integrated model of medical, mental health, and prevention activities and services.

Compensation:

The starting hourly rate for this position is $19.00, and is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.

Required Qualifications:

  •  Minimum of 6 months of experience working in a healthcare setting

  • Current CPR/BLS certification prior to start date

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)

  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)

  • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)

  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
