Job Summary:
We are seeking a candidate who will help to advance basic and translational research in lung injury, lung transplantation, and sepsis, supporting several physician-scientists within the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. The candidate will perform supervised work on several projects using human patient specimens and cultured cells. Specifically, with Dr. Monica Liu, they will generate lung organoids from patients' bronchoalveolar lavage fluid to study mechanisms of lung transplant rejection. With Dr. Hilary Faust, they will use patient plasma and cells to identify mechanisms of lung and other organ injury during sepsis. More broadly, we work closely with Dr. Lynn Schnapp's lab and other collaborators to study lung injury, repair, and fibrosis.
The candidate will perform complex biological procedures and analyses in a basic science laboratory. All the experiments require meticulous technique and the ability to optimize and troubleshoot many different protocols, including cell and organoid culture, immunofluorescence, qPCR, microscopy, and RNA sequencing. The candidate will receive one-on-one training in all techniques, with the expectation that they will grow into independence. They will have the opportunity to prepare experimental results for presentation and publication. The candidate should possess strong organizational and communication skills, a talent for managing diverse tasks, and an ability to work well in a team. The ideal candidate will have a keen intellectual interest in the science behind the projects and a demonstrated commitment to increasing their background knowledge about their work.
