Inventory Control Supervisor
Job Summary:
The DoIT Inventory Control Supervisor oversees inventory operations to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and compliance across the organization. This 100% on-site role supervises staff responsible for inventory management, mail and package logistics, and internal distribution, while also managing the unit budget.
The supervisor plays a strategic role in maintaining operational consistency, resolving inventory discrepancies, and supporting capital equipment tracking. This position is vital to maintaining smooth and secure inventory and distribution processes within the organization. Key responsibilities include coordinating procurement and replenishment, inspecting and adding incoming items to inventory, maintaining inventory records, and ensuring proper handling and security of equipment. Additionally, they manage the building loading dock, fleet and forklift operations, and provide backup support to their logistics team as needed.
The ideal candidate for this position has excellent supervisory, organization, communication and problem resolution skills, and is adept at managing relationships amongst internal stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise logistics staff, including hiring and performance management.
- Monitor inventory levels and coordinate replenishment orders using established procurement procedures.
- Inspect incoming items, maintain accurate records, and ensure proper notification and distribution.
- Oversee the building loading dock, mail and package receipt, delivery, and internal inventory movement.
- Generate inventory reports and maintain documentation of stock usage and variances.
- Collaborate with internal teams to manage capital equipment and ensure accurate product transfers.
- Manage fleet vehicles and forklift operations, including maintenance, permits, and compliance.
- Provide backup support to logistics operations as needed.
This position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. This position is located at 1210 W. Dayton St., Madison WI 53706. Per University policy, transportation between home and assigned work location is not payable/reimbursable and will be at the expense of the employee.

User Services delivers client-centered support to meet the academic, administrative, and research needs of the UW–Madison campus community. We offer a broad range of consultation and user support services through the Help Desk, InfoLabs, Product Management, and Departmental Support. Additionally, we provide and maintain enterprise Software as a Service (SaaS) applications that enhances collaboration and communication across campus.
The logistics team provides essential on-site material handling and tracking services for multiple DoIT departments and the Division Property Manager. Core responsibilities include inventory management and capital item tracking, loading dock receiving, product storage, order fulfillment, shipping and mail delivery, and fleet management.
Compensation:
Starting salary will be based on experience and qualifications. Well-qualified applicants can anticipate earning between $31.25/hr - $38/hr with a final rate based on experience and qualifications.

Required Qualifications:
- Experience leading and managing staff, including hiring and performance management.
- Working knowledge of inventory control systems and audits, cycle counts, and variance tracking.
- Experience with loading dock management, mail/package handling, shipping/receiving, and internal inventory movement.
- Knowledge of postal/shipping regulations and inventory security protocols.
- Experience creating and publishing policies, training staff, and coordinating with internal teams and external vendors.
- Demonstrated experience with spreadsheets, basic databases, ability to use reporting tools, email, and chat platforms
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience managing fleet vehicles, forklift operations, and related compliance requirements.
- Familiarity with vendor procedures and replenishment workflows.
- Familiarity with Inventory Management ERPs such as Workday including ability to manage and track inventory within the ERP.
- Familiarity with operations process and workflow optimization methodologies to improve operational efficiency.
- Experience working in a University Environment
