Job Summary:

The Department of Population Health Sciences at the University of Wisconsin Madison's School of Medicine and Public Health, in collaboration with the Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Unit, within the Wisconsin Department of Health Services’ (DHS) Bureau of Environmental and Occupational Health (BEOH), Lead and Asbestos Section (LAS), seeks to hire a Program Coordinator with strong skills in project management, team collaboration, and community outreach to coordinate the activities of our Lead-in-Water Testing and Remediation Initiative (Lead-in-WTR Initiative) and assist Local Health Departments with lead risk assessments and clearances.

Under general supervision of the Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Unit Supervisor, this position will be responsible for coordinating all aspects of the Lead-in-WTR Initiative, including outreach to local health departments (LHDs); contracting; training LHDs on the EPA 3Ts process; developing resource materials; coordinating lead remediation with the Department of Children and Families (DCF), child care centers and Early Head Start Programs; data collection and reporting to both EPA and DCF. Additionally, this position will provide key technical assistance to Local Health Departments who are conducting lead risk assessments and clearances related to cases of childhood lead poisoning in Wisconsin.

  • It is anticipated that this position will be remote and requires work be performed at an offsite, non-campus work location.
  • FTE is 100% (full-time)

Successful candidates will address the following Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities in their cover letter.

  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to coordinate and track progress on multiple tasks and projects.
  • Ability to use computer applications including word processing, spreadsheet creation, and data processing.
  • Knowledge of the role and activities of the Lead and Asbestos Section, Bureau of Environmental and Occupational Health, Division of Public Health, Wisconsin Department of Health Services. - Knowledge of, or experience with, EPA’s 3Ts for Reducing Lead in Drinking Water, or other experience testing drinking water for contaminants.
  • Knowledge of, or certification in, conducting lead investigations (including using an XRF). Knowledge of public health programs and functions.
  • Knowledge of, or experience working with, local health departments.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Skill in community outreach and organizing large groups.
  • Ability to work with a variety of professional groups and individuals, including collaboration with local health departments and childcare facilities.
  • Skill in presenting and public speaking.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Directs the implementation of program policies and procedures

  • Identifies, promotes, and maintains internal and external partnerships to promote the outreach program

  • Schedules and secures logistics and resources in support of an outreach program

  • Schedules day-to-day activities for program staff and student and community volunteers

  • Identifies opportunities for program improvement or new outreach program development

  • Provides technical assistance to Local Health Departments in their childhood lead poisoning case investigations and clearances.

  • Prepares and submits reports to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Children and Families.

Compensation:

The starting salary for the position is $60,000; but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience with EPA’s 3Ts for Reducing Lead in Drinking Water, or other experience testing drinking water for contaminants.
  • Experience or certification in, conducting lead investigations (including using an XRF)
  • Must be eligible and able to become certified with the Wisconsin Department of Health Services as a lead risk assessor within the first 3 months of holding the position.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current Certification with the Wisconsin Department of Health Services as a lead risk assessor preferred.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with focus in public health, environmental health, or a related field of study preferred
