Job Summary:
Under the guidance of mentors and with faculty support, Hastie Fellows will:
engage in intensive research and writing, publish research, gain teaching experience, and participate in the legal teaching job market and recruitment process.
Hastie Fellows are appointed for a term of two years.
First year: emphasis on scholarship and research agenda.
Second year: application to legal teaching market; emphasis on teaching experience and publication of research.

Responsibilities:
The first year of the program is devoted primarily to scholarship. By the fall semester of the second year, Fellows should be sufficiently advanced in their research to apply to the legal teaching market. In addition to supporting Fellows on the teaching market, the second year of the program focuses on teaching experience and publication of the Fellow's research.

Terminal Degree
JD or equivalent law degree from an accredited American law school highly preferred.
If law degree is not from an American law school, candidates with multiple years of experience practicing law in the U.S. may be considered.
Qualifications:
Excellent legal writing and research skills.

Hastie Fellows will be appointed for a term of two years. During the term of the appointment, Fellows are required to be in residence in Madison with a commitment to participating fully in the life of the Law School.

1) Cover Letter/Personal Statement: Please discuss how your life experiences have guided your desire to become a legal scholar and teacher, and how your participation would contribute to the Program's goals.
2) Resume or curriculum vitae.
3) Research proposal: Please describe, in two to three single-spaced pages, the research you plan to pursue during the Hastie Fellowship. In addition to describing your general research interests, the proposal should identify two specific scholarly works that you expect to develop during your time in residence.
Also required will be three references' email contact information, submitted through the Jobs at UW website. Law School HR will send requests for reference letters during the interview process.
