Job Summary:

The Waisman Center is dedicated to the advancement of knowledge about human development, developmental disabilities, and neurodegenerative diseases throughout the lifespan. One of 15 centers of its kind in the United States, the Waisman Center encompasses laboratories for biomedical and behavioral research, several scientific research cores, and a clinical biomanufacturing facility for the production of pharmaceuticals for early stage human clinical trials. In addition to its research efforts, the Center provides an array of services to people with developmental disabilities, offers numerous educational and outreach programs to young children and their families, and trains scientists and clinicians who will serve our nation in the future.

This position is a staff member within the Community Outreach Wisconsin (COW), University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD) work unit located at 122 E. Olin Avenue. This position will develop, coordinate and implement--in close collaboration with Dane County Human Services, Journey Mental Health Center--the provision of DHS Chap 34 Crisis Stabilization services to Dane County residents with intellectual disabilities who are at high risk of experiencing a mental health crisis. Working closely with Community TIES Behavior Outreach consultants, this position will coordinate the provision of culturally sensitive, recovery oriented, and trauma sensitive, direct clinical crisis stabilization services to eligible Dane County residents.

This position is not a first responder. The position provides short-term pro-active crisis prevention planning and post-crisis follow-up service coordination. This position will also research and create program policies and procedures and provide ongoing training to Waisman Center Community Outreach staff and affiliated programs in Dane county to integrate the utilization of Crisis Stabilization services in a manner that compliments long-term care services typically provided under the Family Care and IRIS programs to Dane County residents with IDD.

Responsibilities:

Delivers and assists with planning outreach program activities, strengthens partnerships, ensures adherence to policy, and assists with program administration to promote stable and productive relationships between the university and local community. Strives to expand and ensure access to programs, facilities, and educational services to diverse audiences. May assist with tracking and managing the outreach program budget.
  • 20% Identifies, promotes, and maintains external partnerships to support the outreach program
  • 20% Schedules and secures resources and communicates logistics in support of an outreach program
  • 20% Delivers outreach program content and materials to community members
  • 5% Researches, develops, and facilitates outreach program content and materials
  • 5% Develops and evaluates curriculum and programs and provides recommendations for improvement
  • 5% May assist with the monitoring of outreach program budget spending
  • 5% Leads the implementation of programs, policies, and procedures through oversight of day-to-day activities for program staff and student and community volunteers
  • 5% Contributes to core functions of the University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD), including activities of training/teaching, conducting research, disseminating evidence and best practices, and demonstrating model services.
  • 5% Participates in Dane County's Collaborative Stabilization Coalition.
  • 5% Participate in the supervision of students in one or two semester field placements or internships for UW-Madison School of Social Worker, Rehabilitation Psychology, and other departments as needed.
  • 5% Provides consultation and training to Waisman Center Community Outreach staff and affiliated programs on DHS Cap.34 Crisis Stabilization policies and procedures.

Education:

Required
Bachelor's Degree in Social Work or related field, such as Rehabilitation Psychology, Counseling, Marriage and Family therapy, Psychology, Special Education.

Preferred
Master's Degree in the aforementioned fields.

Qualifications:

The following experience is required:
- Three years of experience providing service coordination support to people with intellectual/developmental disabilities (IDD) and/or mental illness in community settings. Relevant student and/or volunteer experience may be considered.
- One year of experience in supporting mental health needs of individuals with IDD including managing crisis situations and/or providing mental health services.

The following experience is preferred:
- Experience with community-based mental health assessment, case management, treatment planning and crisis resolution.
- Experience conducting assessments and developing behavioral support plans/treatment/crisis plans for individuals with IDD.
- Experience working collaboratively with law enforcement, hospitals, emergency mental health services, community providers, and multi-disciplinary community teams supporting individuals with IDD.
- Demonstrated commitment to principle of recovery and facilitating consumer participation in treatment planning and provision.
- Well versed in applying and advocating "best practice" strategies and philosophy related to individualized, person-centered community inclusion for persons with intellectual/developmental disabilities (IDD).
- Experience completing accurate clinical records including, intakes, assessments, treatment or support plans, progress notes, and other reports in a timely manner.
- Experience writing or developing program policies and procedures.
- Fluency in English and Spanish.
- Knowledge of the following: Wisconsin Mental Health laws (incl. DHS Chap 34, 51 and 55), funding resources including the Children's Long-Term Support Waiver (CLTS), Family Care and Include, Respect, I Self-Direct (IRIS); and/or Dane County IDD and mental health service system and service providers.
- Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate with persons with a wide range of abilities and backgrounds.

License/Certification:

Preferred
LCSW - Licensed Clinical Social Worker - State Licensure
Clinical supervision towards acquisition of LCSW license can be provided.

CSW - Certified Social Worker

Preferred
LPC - Licensed Professional Counselor

Additional Information:

The successful applicant will be responsible for ensuring eligibility for employment in the United States on or before the effective date of the appointment. University sponsorship is not available for this position.

A Criminal Background Check will be performed. Additionally, a Caregiver Background Check will be conducted.

Must complete HIPAA and receive certification within the first 5 days of employment and annually thereafter.

Reporting requirements must be completed in a timely manner, including but not limited to effort reporting and outside activities reporting.

A valid driver's license that meets UW Risk Management standards is required. The incumbent must provide his/her own transportation to sites. This position will require travel to various locations within the Dane county area.

This position will be located at 122 East Olin Ave, Madison, WI. Free parking is available.

Standard work hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00am-5:00pm, but occasional evening and weekend hours for trainings or attending conferences may be required.
