Job Summary:

The GreenHouse Program Manager position is an integral member of the leadership team that directs the GreenHouse Learning Community (https://www.housing.wisc.edu/residence-halls/learning-communities/greenhouse/) jointly administered through University Housing and the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences at UW-Madison. This position leads the day-to-day implementation of the residential learning community focused on assisting students in their college transition with an emphasis on connecting with academic and co-curricular resources for sustainability. The Program Manager, in close collaboration with the Faculty Director, manages all aspects of the annual lifecycle of the program, including prospective student recruitment, student staff hiring and training, program implementation, strategic planning and assessment. GreenHouse Learning Community is an undergraduate residential community for students interested in all facets of sustainable living and local service opportunities that reflect sustainability. GreenHouse students have access to a dedicated greenhouse on the roof of their residence hall and participate in growing some of their own food in a community garden.

Principal duties:
1. Execute innovative co-curricular programming for residents focused on sustainability.
- Programming includes trips, community events, speakers, etc.
- Coordinate communication and marketing with current residents.
- Serve as a resource for residents regarding campus sustainability opportunities.
2. Provide logistical support to the Faculty Director in implementing the academic seminar connected to GreenHouse. Support may include managing space and technology reservations, communication with the sponsoring academic department, and student recruitment for the course.
3. Manage administrative logistics for the learning community, such as recruitment; purchasing; hiring; budget management; event planning and scheduling; alumni relations; facilities management; and website development.
4. Hire, manage and train student employees.
5. Collect data and feedback from students, faculty, and staff to assess the program. Analyze the results, create reports, and offer suggestions for continued development/improvement to the program leadership team.
6. Supervise graduate student greenhouse manager who oversees the greenhouse facility.

Responsibilities:

Oversees the daily management of programs, services, activities, facilities, policies and/or processes in order to support student success in various areas of student affairs. Works under broad, administrative direction with significant responsibility for assigned area(s) of responsibility. Responds to inquiries from University departments, educational institutions, the community, and/or external agencies. Strives to create a welcoming, equitable, and inclusive work environment.
  • 25% Plans, organizes, administers, and manages processes and operations related to assigned area(s) of responsibility
  • 20% Monitors, evaluates, and modifies processes, procedures, and/or standards, ensuring alignment with the Institution's mission, values, goals, and objectives, as well as all local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
  • 5% Advises and enforces Institution policies related to services in Student Affairs
  • 15% Serves as the program or unit liaison to internal and external stakeholder groups
  • 10% Schedules logistics and secures resources to support the operational plans of the program or unit
  • 10% May monitor the program budget and approve expenditures
  • 15% Lead recruitment, selection, training, and supervision of student employees

Qualifications:

Required qualifications:
- Minimum of one year of experience working with students in an educational setting. Examples include student affairs and/or service positions in higher education and K-12 classroom teaching
- Organizational and time-management skills that include problem-solving, multi-tasking, prioritizing, and meeting deadlines
- Demonstrated strength in verbal and written communication skills to a variety of audiences (e.g., professional emails, memos, reports to internal and external audiences; responding to inquiries from colleagues or customers; adjusting communication style as needed; attention to detail)
- Experience educating others on topics of sustainability

Preferred qualifications:
- Familiarity with the needs of first-year students, from varied backgrounds, in their transition to college
- Experience administratively supporting an academic program. Examples include budget management, planning and implementing co-curricular events, arranging meetings, etc.
- Familiarity with academic programs and resources on a college campus
- Experience working collaboratively within a model of shared leadership

Work Type:

Part Time: 50%

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.

The individual in this position will work 20 hours per week. Evening and weekend work is common.

Salary:

Minimum $56,112 ANNUAL (12 months)
Depending on Qualifications
The anticipated salary range for this position is $56,112 - $60,000. However, final salary will depend on experience and qualifications. Employees in this position can expect to receive benefits such as generous vacation, holidays, and paid time off; competitive insurances and savings accounts; retirement benefits. Additional Information:

- This position has been identified as a position of trust. The selected candidate will be required to pass an initial background check, as well as a subsequent check every four years.
- A 12-month evaluation period may be required
- Work will be at least 80% on-campus
- The successful applicant will be responsible for ensuring eligibility for employment in the United States by the start of the appointment. University sponsorship is not available for this position.
