Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and creative graphic designer to join our Student Affairs communications team. The primary responsibility in this short-term appointment will be to translate the established vision, mission, and values of Student Affairs into a brand identity and guidance for use across the Student Affairs organization. Branding must align with UW-Madison brand and visual identity. Additional work could include print and digital design projects as assigned by the assistant director of communications.

This position will work closely with our team to produce visually compelling assets and standardized guidance across a range of platforms. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong experience developing the visual identity and tone of an organization that centers its people, those they serve, and the experiences they support. Familiarity and experience with UW-Madison brand design is preferred.

This role requires proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and a preferred familiarity with Canva or Adobe Express, a strong portfolio showcasing your role in design and brand projects, and the ability to adapt to evolving design trends and project requirements.

Responsibilities:

Conceptualizes, plans, and executes digital and/or print design to support the strategic objectives of the institution; creates on-brand, compelling visual assets used to inform, educate, inspire, and/or persuade.
  • 20% Creates, designs, and produces artwork per project specifications through various mediums
  • 5% Analyzes and identifies cost effective options to meet project requirements
  • 5% Schedules logistics, secures resources, organizes, and monitors art production projects adhering to established timelines and expectations
  • 10% Answers questions and provides information and problem resolution options to clients and stakeholders
  • 20% Applies creative expertise within established brand and style guidelines
  • 20% Works collaboratively with other creative professionals, engages in and responds to creative feedback, manages project workflow and timing, maintains files, and follows established work unit processes
  • 20% Develops brand strategy and concepts

Tasks:

  • Branding & Style Guide Design--Develop Student Affairs brand, visual identity, and guidelines that align with the UW-Madison brand and ensure consistency across various channels and departmental uses.
  • Creative Concepting--Develop visual concepts that align with organizational identity and goals.
  • Print & Digital Design--Design promotional, informational, and other projects for print and digital platforms.

Qualifications:

Required:
- Min 3 years relevant professional experience, including managing multiple projects in a deadline-driven environment

- Experience in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop

- Demonstrated experience with developing an organization's brand identity and guidance


Preferred:
- Experience with UW-Madison branding

- Familiarity with design for higher education

- Experience with video editing and motion graphics design

Work Type:

Part Time: 50%

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely at an offsite, non-campus work location upon supervisor and department/Student Affairs division approval.

Appointment Type, Duration:

Terminal, 6 month appointment.
This position has the possibility to be extended or converted to an ongoing appointment based on need and/or funding

Salary:

Minimum $49,000 ANNUAL (12 months)
Depending on Qualifications
The anticipated starting salary range for this position is between $49,000 and $65,000 annually, depending on qualifications and experience. This is a part-time position at 50% full-time equivalent (FTE), so the salary will be prorated to 50% from the date of hire until June 30, 2025.
