Job Summary:

The Office for Student Transition and Family Engagement (OSTFE) is looking for an Academic Engagement Coordinator to develop and manage the one-credit Wisconsin Experience course. This role will focus on creating a curriculum that implements high-impact practices to support the development of new students at UW-Madison. The coordinator will collaborate with campus partners, including the Counseling Psychology department and the Office of Inclusion and Equity.

As a key member of the OSTFE team, the First-Year Seminar Coordinator will enhance the academic engagement of first-year students. This position administers a campus-wide extended orientation course for new freshmen and transfer students that is known as CP125: The Wisconsin Experience. The coordinator will supervise a team of 30-40 undergraduate teaching fellows and interns, mentor faculty and staff instructors, develop and evaluate course curriculum, and instruct course sections as needed.

Responsibilities:

Oversees the daily management of programs, services, activities, facilities, policies and/or processes in order to support student success in various areas of student affairs. Works under broad, administrative direction with significant responsibility for assigned area(s) of responsibility. Responds to inquiries from University departments, educational institutions, the community, and/or external agencies. Strives to create a welcoming, equitable, and inclusive work environment.
  • 20% Plans, organizes, administers, and manages processes and operations related to assigned area(s) of responsibility
  • 5% Monitors, evaluates, and modifies processes, procedures, and/or standards, ensuring alignment with the Institution's mission, values, goals, and objectives, as well as all local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
  • 15% Serves as the program or unit liaison to internal and external stakeholder groups
  • 10% Schedules logistics and secures resources to support the operational plans of the program or unit
  • 5% May monitor the program budget and approve expenditures
  • 30% May exercise supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 FTE or equivalent employees
  • 15% Develops curriculum in support of high-impact academic program

Tasks:

  • Manage detailed operations and logistics for course assignments for student and professional staff
  • Serve as liaison to campus partners in support of new students
  • Train and supervise student leaders, as well as providing administrative support to professional instructors
  • Coordinate effective communication strategies for internal and external audiences
  • Develop course content for the entirety of the Wisconsin Experience Seminar in conjunction with campus partners
  • Create strategies for course enrollment management
  • Assist in proposing and monitoring program expenses
  • Monitor, propose, and implement operational policies and procedures
  • Serve on departmental, student affairs, and campus committees as needed
  • Develop and implement strategies to evaluate program success and recommend future improvements

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:
-Minimum 2-4 years of professional experience in an Education setting related to teaching, first-experience or transition programs, curricular development, or faculty development
-Working knowledge of student learning and development theory and practice
-Experience in the recruitment, selection, training, and supervision of undergraduate students and/or faculty/staff instructors
-Experience in course enrollment/management
-Experience in the development of educational program content

Preferred Qualifications:
-Strong written and oral communication skills
-Strong facilitation skills and ability to work effectively with numerous stakeholders
-Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team
-Ability to manage logistics of complex programs and/or processes

Work Type:

Full Time: 100%

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location upon supervisor and department/Student Affairs division approval.
