Job Summary:
The Department of Medicine in the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health is recruiting for a Financial Specialist III. This position will provide high customer service to faculty and staff. They will assist faculty and staff with purchasing and travel related items along with providing advice on purchasing rules and regulations.
Responsibilities:
Primarily reviews, approves, and advises on a variety of complex financial transactions. Reconciles transactions. Maintains financial records, provides administrative processing support, and provides customer service for staff and customers in an assigned program area to support program financial management. Recommends controls and process improvements and troubleshoots complex financial errors. May be a lead or resource for others in the unit.
- 5% Monitors financial transactions and fund balances and generates and reconciles complex reports and statements in accordance with established rules and regulations
- 10% Reviews and approves complex transactions and assigns funding codes in accordance with established rules, regulations, and policies
- 20% Reallocates expenses to appropriate funding strings
- 10% Drafts communications and reports and maintains organization of varied records to provide administrative support within a specified work unit
- 10% Answers complex fiscal questions and provides information based on set materials and standards to various audiences
- 10% Reviews transaction processing internal controls and recommends policies and procedures
- 20% Serve as a unit liaison to leadership providing financial advice, recommendations, and financial status updates
- 15% May train staff on financial processes and best practices

Qualifications:
- At least 1 year of finance experience required.
- Effective oral and written communication skills is required.
- Professional level and highly efficient use of Microsoft Office is required.
- Experience working with complex automated accounting systems and processes preferred

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.

Minimum $49,000 ANNUAL (12 months)

The starting salary for the position is $49,000 but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications. Additional Information:
University sponsorship is not available for this position, including transfers of sponsorship.
