Job Summary:

The Morgridge Center for Public Service connects University of Wisconsin-Madison students, staff and faculty to local and global communities to build partnerships and solve critical issues through service and learning.

This new role will work with UW-Madison's Morgridge Center for Public Service and community partners to provide leadership and coordination for education-themed (primarily tutoring and mentoring) programs, focusing primarily on expanding mentoring and tutoring opportunities. Developing new partnerships with campus and community stakeholders and increasing the numbers of students engaged in mentoring and tutoring are the primary goals for this position. Duties will include: creating a comprehensive tutoring and mentoring program in collaboration with community partners and campus stakeholders; recruiting, training, and placing UW-Madison students as mentors and tutors; developing processes to assess student, partner, and youth experiences; recruiting and supervising student interns; and collaborating with MCPS staff on center-wide initiatives/projects. Implementation of these responsibilities will require an understanding of relevant issues in the areas of education, youth development, civic engagement and social justice and will utilize current research and best practices in the domains of mentoring and tutoring, student development, community engaged learning, civic engagement, social identity development, leadership, reflective practice, community partnership, group facilitation, and community engaged learning pedagogy.

Responsibilities:

Provides guidance for program planning, implementation, and evaluation, and/or supervises outreach staff. Monitors budget and appropriate funding for programming. Promotes stable and productive relationships between the university and community. Strives to expand and ensure access to programs, facilities, and educational services to diverse audiences.
  • 65% Supervises the implementation of outreach-program-focused strategic planning initiatives and objectives
  • 10% Develops and implements operating policies and procedures to promote the outreach program in alignment with the strategic plan
  • 5% Monitors the unit or program budget and approves program expenditures
  • 5% Reviews recommendations for and provides input on the design and development of new outreach programs or services
  • 5% Determines outreach program needs and the personnel resource allocation plan
  • 10% May exercise supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 FTE or equivalent employees

Tasks:

  • Create and coordinate ongoing or sustained/semester and academic year engagement efforts with community and campus partners for UW-Madison student body.
  • Promote recruitment of UW-Madison students through collaboration with on-campus partners.
  • Make recommendations for program growth and UW-Madison student engagement.
  • Collaborate with Community Engaged Scholarship team to identify faculty whose scholarship is tied to education themed efforts.
  • Determine outreach program needs.
  • Support the development of new topics and school sites & community-based programming.
  • Collaborate on development of student training and reflection.
  • Supervise education program interns.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with other Morgridge Center team members.
  • Monitor program budget.
  • Contribute to regular Morgridge Center staff meetings, annual retreats, and staff events.
  • Serve on campus wide committee(s) as it relates to job duties/program scope.
  • Support the data collection and tracking of UW-Madison student participation.

Qualifications:

Required:
- Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in a related field
- Demonstrated knowledge of volunteer management practices
- Prior experience with public speaking, training, and/or facilitation
- Prior experience coordinating logistics of events and programs of varying sizes
- Prior experience managing relationships and/or partnerships with off-campus partners/organizations

Preferred:
- Knowledge/experience related to mentoring and tutoring, schools/schooling/education, and community involvement/non-profits
- Experience recruiting and supervising/supporting undergraduate students, preferably involved in education-themed tutoring/mentoring community engagement programming
- Experience managing a budget
- Experience creating/implementing, managing, and assessing large community-engagement programs
- Experience collaborating with faculty on community-based learning courses
- Experience working on a large, decentralized campus
- Experience using and proficiency in Microsoft and Google applications
- Knowledge of University practices, policies, and procedures

Work Type:

Full Time: 100%

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.

Salary:

Minimum $60,601 ANNUAL (12 months)
Depending on Qualifications
Actual pay is determined at hire and is based on experience and qualifications.
