Job Summary:
PBS Wisconsin and Wisconsin Public Radio (WPR) seek an experienced and dynamic fundraiser and manager for a key Development leadership role. The Deputy Director of Development will work closely with and report to the Chief Development Officer (CDO) of PBS Wisconsin and WPR, who also serves as Executive Director of the two supporting organizations: Friends of PBS Wisconsin, Inc. and the Wisconsin Public Radio Association. This position will directly manage and supervise a significant portion of an experienced and successful development team, work directly with donors, solicit gifts, build external relationships, and serve as deputy leader of the Development Department, and as the associate executive director of the boards of the supporting 501(c)3s.
This is a new position and will contribute to building out new organizational structures, managing change, and setting new strategies. The Development Department works collaboratively to support the missions of PBS WI and WPR in serving the people and communities of Wisconsin with high quality media, events, and educational materials that educate, entertain, and inspire. Gifts and grants are our largest source of revenue. As a team, we coordinate our efforts to develop long-term relationships with supporters to encourage them to engage with our mission, make annual membership gifts, major gifts, and planned gift commitments. Units in the department include: Membership, Major Gifts, Legacy Giving, Corporate Support, Grants, Events, and Community Engagement.

Responsibilities:
Assists in the development and implementation of innovative, creative promotional campaigns and strategy in alignment with corporate and foundation-related institutional strategic goals. Represents the school or unit to internal and external stakeholders and contributes to the supervision of unit staff.
- 10% Serves as a key unit authority to identify cultivate, solicit, and steward prospective and existing members and donors to support growth in line with the unit vision and values
- 10% Serves as a lead fundraiser in the absence of a Director
- 15% Supervises the day-to-day activities of unit managerial staff and identifies staff performance goals
- 15% Directs strategic planning pertaining to growth initiatives and establishes unit objectives in alignment with the strategic plan
- 15% Leads the development and execution of cross-unit communications strategies and promotional campaigns and materials to align with institutional initiatives
- 15% Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees
- 20% Serves as deputy to Chief Development Officer. Serves on organizational leadership teams. Serves as the Associate Executive Director of WPRA and Friends of PBS Wisconsin Boards

Qualifications:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Demonstrated leadership experience.
- Experience in major gift and/or planned gift development.
- Experience working with or serving on nonprofit boards of directors.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Experience working with budgets.
- Demonstrated public speaking skills.
- Organizational skills and self-direction to meet deadlines, track multiple projects, and carry out tasks independently.
- Experience managing direct reports, including performance management, coaching, and fostering a positive and productive work environment.
- Ability to listen to and communicate with donors and community leaders across communities.
- Working knowledge of common office software such as email, word processing, spreadsheets and shared drives.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in Public Media.
- Experience using a donor or customer database (CRM).
- Strategic planning or campaign planning experience.
- Financial acumen and understanding of investment principles and strategies that donors commonly use and that organizations engage in.
- Experience with on-air fundraising.

This position offers some hybrid flexibility with a minimum expectation of 2-3 days per week on-site, after onboarding. In-person work will be completed at WPM's headquarters on the UW-Madison campus. In-person meetings and events may require additional in-person attendance. Events may include some evening and weekend hours. In-state residency is a requirement and fully remote candidates will not be accepted.

Expected salary range for this position is $110,000 - $130,000 annually. Actual pay will depend on experience and qualifications.

Additional Information:
This position requires the ability to work some evenings and weekends.
This position regularly requires travel within Wisconsin for occasional work assignments and other activities requiring evenings, weekends, and overnight travel. Please note, any driver must be able to be approved as a UW Authorized Driver.
