Job Summary:

The University of Wisconsin Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences Clinical Eye Research Unit is a robust team of experienced ophthalmology-specific research personnel, which enables the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences (DOVS) to meet and exceed the needs of sponsors and investigators. The unit is utilized in many aspects of the research process, including resident and fellow education, review board approvals, budget/contract negotiations, regulatory IRB submissions, and ultimately coordinating and conducting the research according to the study design and protocol. The mission of the CERU is to enhance ophthalmic care and develop methods to prevent and treat blindness by providing service in clinical research, clinical trials, research education, as well as through interdepartmental and interdisciplinary collaborations.

As the Clinical Research Supervisor for the Clinical Eye Research Unit, you will assist the Manger to oversee the patient-related clinical activities of the research unit, including supervising a team of research coordinators, ensuring that all research activity adheres to applicable international, federal, state and institutional regulations, policies, procedures, and requirements. The incumbent must be able to handle multiple projects simultaneously and work independently using initiative and good judgment. The Supervisor will help coordinate research activities, develop policies and procedures, to support research efforts as well as implement processes to support the protocols and research aims. The incumbent will work directly with the unit manager as well as investigators, sponsors, clinical research organizations, and research teams to prepare regulatory submissions and execute clinical trials.

Responsibilities:

Makes methodological recommendations for multiple clinical trials simultaneously or clinical trials with unique complexity, performs research activities, and compiles and analyzes the quarterly review of all Principal Investigator accounts to aid in the performance of the clinical trials research process. Supervises staff and functions under the Principal Investigator's medical license and cannot perform any tasks that by state or local law require a medical license to perform.
  • 10% Schedules logistics and secures resources for a defined clinical research trial of high complexity and/or multiple research trials
  • 5% Recruits, screens, and enrolls trial participants, collects complex information, performs medical assessments, and answers detailed questions with supervision from a medically licensed professional
  • 5% Collects, prepares, processes, analyzes, and submits participant data and samples to appropriate entities, adhering to research protocols and compliance with applicable policies and procedures
  • 30% Assists with review of current research trials, development of operational protocols and work unit policies, and makes recommendations to leadership for improvements
  • 10% Serves as a subject matter expert and main point of contact for clinical research participants providing information regarding research procedures, expectations, and informational inquiries
  • 20% Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees
  • 10% Reviews documents, applications, and reports and ensures compliance with internal and external regulatory framework
  • 5% Creates, implements, and maintains training materials for staff learning objectives
  • 5% Monitors staff compliance with established quality requirements

Qualifications:

Required:
-Minimum 3 years of Research clinical trials experience
-Minimum 3 years of supervisory experience
-Minimum 3 years experience with Regulatory submissions and grants administration
-Attention to detail and good organizational, management, and office skills (examples may include time management, communication, setting goals, delegation, working under pressure, self-motivation, analytical and creative thinking)
-Experience with databases and spreadsheets
-Excellent interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills
-Experience leading a team in a research setting

Preferred:
-Ophthalmology experience
-Current and up to date with CITI, human subjects and good clinical practice
-Familiar with UW programs- ARROW, WISER, RAMP, Florence, OnCore, REdCap, Healthlink

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.

Minimum $65,449 ANNUAL (12 months)

Additional Information:

This position has been identified as a position of trust with access to vulnerable populations. The selected candidate will be required to pass an initial caregiver check to be eligible for employment under the Wisconsin Caregiver Law and every four years.

University sponsorship is not available for this position, including transfers of sponsorship and TN visas.
