Security Officer I
Job Summary:
The Arena Control office monitors computers to ensure the safe reliable operation of the building. Building temperature, lighting, fire panel controls, and security camera monitors will be used daily.
Other job duties will include documenting radios and keys, assigned and returned. Checking all incoming mail, UPS, Fed Ex, freight, etc.; and delivering to the proper departments.
The qualified person for this position must have excellent communication skills. This department acts as a central location for all departments to report any issues, problems, or concerns they may have which may affect their role or their department’s needs. All issues must be taken care of in an expeditious manner. Reporting any building issues to the supervisor/manager is key in making sure all problems are resolved.
The position’s scheduled hours will be Saturday and Sunday, 4:00 pm until Midnight, and Monday through Wednesday 10:00 am – 6:00 pm. Some holidays will be needed to ensure proper coverage. Shift changes may be needed occasionally to cover special events or staffing needs.
Key Job Responsibilities:
- Engages in problem solving and community engagement with security issues
- Completes security and safety checks on institutional property by vehicle patrol, foot patrol, and bicycle patrol or at a fixed location
- Responds to emergency situations, assists with safety and security investigations, and accurately documents activities according to established policies, procedures, and applicable laws
- Assists with routine unit administrative operational activities

Compensation:
The minimum starting rate is $17/hour, but may be negotiable depending on qualifications and experience. Night shift differential additional pay may be included for hours worked between 6pm - 6am.

Required Qualifications:
- This role requires daily contact with staff and visitors. Being able to communicate clearly, while being polite and empathetic to their needs is essential.
- The applicant must have some computer knowledge including Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Staff must be able to multitask.
- Staff must be able to work with limited supervision or in a group setting.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of Metasys building controls system
- Knowledge of camera monitoring software
- Knowledge of Lenel card access software
- Knowledge of Adobe Illustrator
Education:
High School Diploma preferred

Conditions of Appointment: This is a 100% University Staff appointment. Salary will be assigned within the appropriate range, commensurate with the candidate's qualifications and experience.
