About the Center for Patient Partnerships: CPP is an innovative interdisciplinary program housed in the Division of Extension. We do and teach health advocacy to transform healthcare to prioritize the well-being of patients, families, and communities. Our staff is creative, collaborative, and dedicated to making health care work for each and all. In addition to our teaching, we research patients' diverse lived experiences and enhance the capacity of patients to influence health policy and health care systems. Our model prioritizes systems change to prevent future barriers for patients and communities.

About this position: The Bilingual Community Resource Educator (CRE) supports the service-learning experience in our Community Resource Navigator Program (CRNP), providing education, supervision, and support to students as they work alongside Spanish- and English-speaking patients with health-harming social needs. They work in a team with the Program Coordinator who leads the classroom ('learning') aspects of CRNP, other CREs, and others. This Bilingual CRE role includes monitoring day-to-day 'service' operations, including supporting program operations at various sites, supervising student work with clients, and trainings on health-related topics. Examples of duties include:
- Orient the students to the Resource Navigator Program, the screening process, and client documentation and communication
- Train students on conducting intakes, sharing resources, client follow-up, etc.
- Review all student communication and documentation
- Provide occasional instruction on navigating community resources in Legal Studies course, LS 473-Impacts of Social and Legal Issues on Health
- Regularly meet with student navigators about their casework; provide feedback and support as needed
- Maintain regular updates of program resource referrals and communicate relevant updates to students
- Manage ongoing navigator shifts
- Provide necessary follow-up and support to complex cases and any case during student breaks and transitions
- Foster partnerships and referral pathways with health, legal, and social service professionals in Dane County

The Bilingual CRE will be responsible for ensuring consistent and quality client services are provided and, when necessary, will provide resource navigation support. The Bilingual CRE will also facilitate outreach activities in English and Spanish to ensure our services are accessible, culturally responsive, and meet our community's needs. The ideal candidate will have experience in cultural humility and work for social-justice oriented non-profits. Responsibilities:

Delivers and assists with planning outreach program activities, strengthens partnerships, ensures adherence to policy, and assists with program administration to promote stable and productive relationships between the university and local community. Strives to expand and ensure access to programs, facilities, and educational services to diverse audiences. May assist with tracking and managing the outreach program budget.
  • 10% Identifies, promotes, and maintains external partnerships to support the outreach program
  • 10% Schedules and secures resources and communicates logistics in support of an outreach program
  • 5% Delivers outreach program content and materials to community members
  • 10% Researches, develops, and facilitates outreach program content and materials
  • 5% Develops and evaluates curriculum and programs and provides recommendations for improvement
  • 40% Leads the implementation of programs, policies, and procedures through oversight of day-to-day activities for program staff and student and community volunteers
  • 10% Works as part of a team to supervise and train our service-learning program students
  • 5% Teaches and/or supports educational programing (in Spanish and English) and adapts educational approaches in a manner that is culturally responsive and linguistically appropriate for the audiences' needs.
  • 5% Participates in all-staff meetings, university service, training, professional development, and other duties as assigned

Education:

Required
Associate's Degree
Or equivalent such as 2 years of relevant training such as Community Health Worker Certification, Medical Bilingual Language Certification, Case Manager/Community Resources training, etc.

Qualifications:

Required:
- At least 2 years of experience providing culturally responsive health, legal, and/or social justice support services to marginalized communities
- At least 2 years of experience providing educational content in a teaching or training setting
- Spanish and English speaking, writing, and comprehension skills; knowledge and understanding of Hispanic culture. Language skills will be evaluated.
- Demonstrated ability to organize and execute outreach activities and collaborate with community organizations
- Commitment to and appreciation of working with diverse groups of individuals, including age, race, ethnicity, gender, gender expression, sexual orientation, socioeconomic and educational background, geographic location, and ability
- Fluency with basic computer programs, including excel, a database, and calendaring systems or a willingness to learn

Preferred:
- Ability to guide, coach, and supervise student interaction with clients and encourage independent work
- Ability to maintain a balance between client needs and educational opportunities/value to a student, and to model how to modulate services as client needs change
- Flexibility and "can do" attitude; team player; willingness to contribute to the Center's mission
- Excellent listening skills, a genuine openness to divergent viewpoints, and the desire to learn from others
- Ability to work under pressure in a very busy environment and manage multiple activities

Work Type:

Full or Part Time: 50% - 100%

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Minimum $58,500 ANNUAL (12 months)

Additional Information:

This position may be required to work occasional nights and weekends to meet the program needs and priorities of the communities served. Specifically, the position will require some Saturday morning/early afternoon hours and some mid-week early evening hours.
