Job Summary:

The Department of Mechanical Engineering (ME) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is seeking applicants for two tenure-track Assistant Professor in the areas of experimental fluid dynamics and structural dynamics.

Fluid Dynamics:

Applications to aerodynamics, turbulence, wind energy, flow control, bio-inspired flows, or related fields.

The ideal candidate will be interested in collaborative research and be an integral contributor to the Engineering Mechanics/Aerospace (EMA) undergraduate and graduate programs, which are housed in the ME Department. In view of the expanding aerospace engineering industry and employment opportunities, the ME Department seeks to strengthen and grow its Aerospace Engineering teaching and research profile.

Structural Dynamics:

We seek candidates with a vision to address societally impactful problems in aerospace, manufacturing, transportation, infrastructure, healthcare, energy, and/or communication, and strengthen and deepen the current research focus areas of the department. Areas of interest include complex mechanical systems, structural dynamics, acoustics and noise control, nonlinear dynamics, reduced-order modeling, system identification, engineered materials and structures.

When appropriate to their research and teaching visions, candidates should leverage experimental and computational assets such as the Wisconsin Centers for Nanoscale Technology, Wisconsin Structures & Materials Testing Laboratory, and the Center for High Throughput Computing.

Responsibilities:

Teaching and developing undergraduate and graduate courses in Mechanical Engineering, mentoring graduate students and supervising their research; developing and directing an extramurally funded research program; participating in departmental and university faculty governance; and contributing to professional and public service.
