Job Summary:

This position is responsible for routine and non-routine tasks associated with golf course maintenance such as mowing, watering, sodding, seeding, course setup, aerification, and tournament preparation as needed. Duties included fertilizer and chemical applications, operating specialized equipment, leading maintenance and improvement projects, ordering and maintaining inventories, and providing training for students and seasonal staff. This position communicates regularly with supervisory staff to prioritize maintenance and course objectives. This position participates in equipment maintenance and snow removal in off season.

Responsibilities:

Maintains and landscapes lawns, planting beds, fields, and golf course groups. Inspects grounds and courses to ensure conditions meet institutional grounds keeping standards.
  • 50% Installs, propagates, and maintains the health of new and existing plants and landscape using a variety of vehicles and equipment
  • 5% Constructs lawn and landscaping projects including soil grading, seeding, and sodding
  • 10% Identifies and acts to remedy plant diseases and insect damage
  • 10% Implements and monitors chemical and fertilizer programs
  • 5% Maintains clean and clear lawns, walkways, roadways, and parking lots to ensure they are free of debris, litter, snow, and ice
  • 20% Performs maintenance and repair tasks on golf course equipment.

Education:

Required
H.S. Diploma
Or two (2) years of turf grass maintenance experience.

Preferred
Bachelor's Degree
Or Associate's Degree in Agronomy, Horticulture, or Turf Management

Qualifications:

Two (2) years of golf course or similar turfgrass maintenance experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
Certified pesticide applicator license; knowledge of and passion for the turfgrass business and the game of golf; and experience with sprayer operation, hand watering, and irrigation repair.

License/Certification:

Required
Drivers License - Valid and Meets UW Risk Management Standards

Work Schedule:

This position is a full-time 40 hours a week and it requires the incumbent to work a flexible schedule including numerous evenings, weekends and overtime, primarily during the golf season.

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Conditions of Appointment: This is a 100% University Staff or Limited appointment. Salary will be assigned within the appropriate range, commensurate with the candidate's qualifications and experience. An excellent benefits package is also included.
