Job Summary:

We are pleased to invite applications for a tenure track position in the Waisman Center and the School of Medicine and Public Health of the University of Wisconsin. We seek outstanding candidates to establish an independent research program in the area of brain development, neurodevelopmental disorders, and neurodegenerative diseases that complements existing strengths of the Waisman Center and embraces our commitment to inter-disciplinary collaboration.


This position requires work to be completed onsite, at a designated campus work location.


Applicants for this position will be considered for the following titles: Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, Professor. The title is determined by the experience and qualifications of the finalist.


This vacancy is being announced simultaneously with JR#10014960 and JR#10014963; please note that only one vacancy exists. Having multiple job postings allows the School of Medicine and Public Health to consider candidates with both tenure-track faculty credentials and non-tenure track faculty credentials for this position.


The School of Medicine and Public Health home department will be determined at the time of hire.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Engage in teaching, and in professional, public and university service appropriate to the faculty rank to support the scholarly and clinical missions of UW Health and the School of Medicine and Public Health. An essential part of these duties will be working in a collegial relationship with other faculty members.
  • Teach graduate, medical students, residents and fellows.
  • Be an active and collegial participant of the Waisman Center activities in research and education/training, as a center investigator.
  • Develop productive, extramurally funded research programs.

The Waisman Center at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is an interdisciplinary research center internationally recognized for its pioneering contributions to the understanding of intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDDs). The center supports interdisciplinary research of 63 faculty from 24 academic departments across 8 schools/colleges spanning biochemical, molecular, cell biological, animal model, human and animal brain imaging, and human cognitive and behavioral analyses. It also hosts an array of clinics specialized in various IDDs with > 3,000 unique patients per year.


The Waisman Center is home to an Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Research Center (IDDRC), a University Center for Excellence in Development Disabilities (UCEDD), and a Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities and Related Disorders (LEND) programs, all federally designated.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 years of postdoctoral training in Neuroscience, Physiology, Genetics, or related field is required by the start date of the position.
  • Demonstrated record of peer-reviewed scholarly publications.
  • Demonstrated experience contributing to externally funded research activities.
  • Research plan demonstrating the potential to establish and sustain an independent research program.

For an appointment at Associate Professor or Professor rank on tenure track, candidates will meet criteria established by the department and as outlined in the UW Divisional Committee guidelines for promotion or appointment to Associate or Professor on the tenure track.

Education:

MD and PhD in Neuroscience, Physiology, Genetics or related field is required by the start date of the position.
