I started as a cook at UW Hospital, and now I’m an executive chef at Union South. My career has been growing since day one. I love the culture here at UW–Madison. Especially having the ability to build teams and help them progress. I support them by recognizing their hard work, giving out awards, providing menu input, and watching my teams see their ideas end up on a menu. That is so rewarding!

I was looking for a positive environment with growth opportunities and a better work-life balance. I found it as I’ve been at UW-Madison for 13 years! I feel my work has an impact at UW. I’m proud of growing the Youth Maintenance and Trades Apprenticeship Program introducing young people to hands-on careers.

Roxanne H. Facilities Manager - University Housing

My desire to work at UW-Madison started when I learned about the Job Rotation Program. As an alumnus of UW-Madison, I had great experiences interacting with students, staff, and faculty. This felt like the perfect opportunity to develop my skills in an environment where I was already comfortable.

I love learning about the work that others do on campus and being creative to find ways to help them do that work successfully. I get the opportunity to meet people where they're at and humbly take in the information they share with me, sometimes when they're at their lowest. I am grateful for the opportunity to advocate that all employees' requests are heard and fairly evaluated.

Sarah B. Employee Accommodation Specialist - Employee Disability Resources Office

What piqued my interest about UW was year-round work, job security, the 40-hour week, and being able to plan a future. I appreciate having a steady work week, leave time and sick days. Things you don’t usually get in a lot of cases working in the trades.

I'm unique in that I'm a practitioner. I teach young adults what I learned as a student and continue to do in the media industry. I take pride in giving skills that translate to the real world so they can make a difference; that's the Wisconsin Idea.

Dexter P. Faculty - Life Sciences Communication

I have been with UW–Madison since 1996. One of my first projects was to create this computer lab that I am currently standing in. My advice for a long career at UW is to be yourself, embrace who you are and how you work, listen critically, and ask questions.
