Job Summary:
This training/technical assistance specialist will be a member of the Great Lakes Prevention Technology Transfer Center (PTTC) team. The Great Lakes PTTC is located at the Center for Health Enhancement Systems Studies (CHESS) in the College of Engineering at the University of Wisconsin – Madison. Funded through a cooperative agreement from the federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), the Great Lakes PTTC provides training and technical assistance to increase the effectiveness of the substance misuse prevention field in HHS Region 5 (IL, IN, MI, MN, OH, and WI).
The primary duties (~95%) of this training/technical assistance specialist for the Great Lakes PTTC include, but are not limited to:
Coordinate, design, and deliver training and technical assistance to address the needs of substance misuse prevention professionals in the Great Lakes region (HHS Region 5)
Develop and revise materials and products used to deliver substance misuse prevention training and technical assistance
Organize technical assistance meetings and trainings
Assist with the development, preparation, and staffing of in-person and virtual training
Assist with tabling at regional events
Support ongoing efforts to prepare the substance misuse prevention workforce to become Certified Prevention Specialists
Participate in PTTC Network meetings and workgroups
Travel will be required up to approximately 25%. Reliable transportation is required
Other duties as assigned by the Great Lakes PTTC co-director

Key Job Responsibilities:
- Reviews recommendations for and provides input on the design and development of new outreach programs or services
- Develops and implements operating policies and procedures to promote the outreach program in alignment with the strategic plan
- Determines outreach program needs and the personnel resource allocation plan
- Monitors the unit or program budget and approves program expenditures
- Supervises the implementation of outreach-program-focused strategic planning initiatives and objectives

Compensation:
The typical starting salary for this position will $80,000 for experienced candidates. Actual pay will depend on experience and qualifications. Required Qualifications:
Minimum of five years of work experience in substance misuse prevention
Minimum of two years of experience providing technical assistance and/or training on substance misuse prevention such as the Strategic Prevention Framework, effective substance misuse prevention strategies, ineffective substance misuse prevention strategies, coalition building, risk/protective factors for substance misuse, data collection, and evaluation
Preferred Qualifications:
Certified Prevention Specialist certification
In-depth understanding of substance misuse prevention science
Strong facilitation skills in large group, small group, and one-on-one settings
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to get along well with a variety of personalities and individuals
Computer skills including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
Excellent relationship builder. Whether with clients or within the team, qualified candidates must be able to work collaboratively and build trust and respect, both in-person and virtually, knowing that whatever the medium, excellent rapport is the basis for an effective working relationship
Strategic thinker who understands the value of technical assistance (TA) as a means of supporting and guiding substance misuse prevention work
Ability to work independently and as a part of a team
Strong attention to detail
Education:
Bachelor’s degree or higher degree
