Job Summary:

The UW-Madison Police Department (UWPD) Security Officer Supervisor provides critical services to campus. This position ensures complete security and safety checks on institutional property, response to emergency situations, assistance with safety and security investigations, and accurate documentation according to established policies, procedures, and applicable laws. This position conducts administrative tasks related to the supervision of Security Officers. The Security Supervisor engages in and oversees problem solving and community engagement related to security issues. This position oversees shift operations, administrative functions, special events, specialized assignments and projects. It collects data, documents, reports, investigates, and analyzes security-related incidents to assist in implementing and supervising daily security initiatives.

Responsibilities:

Supervises staff and directs security operations and process improvement activities, and collects and analyses data to provide security for institution properties, students, staff, and visitors. Serves as a liaison to law enforcement officials, vendors, institutional stakeholders, and the public.
  • 20% Directs, coordinates, and monitors the logistical operations of a security unit and/or supervises the activities of unit staff
  • 5% Assists in the development of policies and procedures, and communicates recommendations to leadership
  • 10% Schedules logistics and secures resources to complete the installation and monitoring of security equipment
  • 10% Serves as a liaison to law enforcement agencies and internal and external stakeholders
  • 5% Collects data and prepares reports on unit activities according to established policies and procedures
  • 30% Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees
  • 20% Required to work special events and assignments as identified by the Division.

Qualifications:

Required:
*Minimum of at least 3 years work experience in security, law enforcement, or related field.

Preferred:
*At least 1 year experience as a lead or trainer in security, law enforcement, or related field.

License/Certification:

Required
Drivers License - Valid and Meets UW Risk Management Standards

Work Schedule:

The Security Officer Supervisor may be scheduled on either first shift, second shift, or third shift which may include working holidays and weekends. Schedules may include working emergencies, special events or other necessary assignments as agreed upon with management.

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.
