Research Specialist

Job Summary:

The Ramratnam Laboratory at the University of Wisconsin and Veterans Health Administration seeks to discover novel mechanisms in cardiac metabolism that may be targeted as therapies in heart disease. The laboratory is an open and highly engaging community that believes in bringing innovation, collaboration and inclusion to the forefront of medical science. With the use of a number of cutting edge strategies in molecular biology, physiology and genetics the laboratory is uncovering new pathways that may help healthcare providers treat patients in the future. Responsibilities:

Develops, designs, and conducts one or more research projects and organizes daily operation of projects and specialized research areas to ensure work meets established objectives under moderate supervision.

• 40% Conducts research experiments according to established research protocols with moderate impact to the project(s). Collects data and monitors test results
• 10% Operates, cleans, and maintains organization of research equipment and research area. Tracks inventory levels and places replenishment orders
• 20% Reviews, analyzes, and interprets data and/or documents results for presentations and/or reporting to internal and external audiences
• 10% Participates in the development, interpretation, and implementation of research methodology and materials
• 10% Provides operational guidance on day-to-day activities of unit or program staff and/or student workers
• 5% Performs literature reviews and writes reports
• 5% Mouse handling

Qualifications:

The successful applicant must have the following qualifications:
-Experience in laboratory medicine working with either tissue, cells or laboratory mice
-Cell culture experience
-RNA PCR and QPCR experience
-Western blotting experience

Work Type:

Part Time: 40% - 50%

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Salary:

Minimum $45,000 ANNUAL (12 months)
Depending on Qualifications
Due to the FLSA threshold this position will be non-exempt.
