Job Summary:
The Anderson Lab within the UW-Madison Center for Genomic Science Innovation (CGSI) and the Department of Medical Genetics seeks an ambitious and highly motivated Research Cyberinfrastructure Facilitator II to support research activities. The lab is housed within the CGSI, which serves as a vibrant and collegial environment for inclusive and collaborative science. The Center and the University are located in Madison, WI, which is frequently voted among the best places to live.
The position described here is to work as part of a team on the development and implementation of a Tribal Data Repository (TDR) as part of a large team composed of three other research institutions. This individual will assist with construction of a primary storage space off-site and its connection to the secondary storage site at the University of Wisconsin-Madison for this newly established TDR by the National Institutes of Health to manage all Tribal data linked to COVID through the Rapid Acceleration of Diagnostics (RADx) program. Job responsibilities include development of the primary storage site for the TDR, building tools to access data through an access portal currently in development, making adjustments to systems for data access and control, data harmonization, and assisting in building training videos for users of the TDR.
Responsibilities:
Engages researchers in the use of various state-of-the-art cyber infrastructure (CI) systems, tools, and software to enable research productivity. Partners with researchers to co-create and co-learn relevant computing and data capabilities. Informs and contributes to projects with technical teams to ensure delivery and improvement of research CI services, contributes to strategy for engaging with faculty research groups and building facilitation capacities, and participates in cross-functional management teams and projects. Informs partnerships with other technology groups, internal and external, and contributes to communication with stakeholders.
- 40% Engages with researchers in their selection and use of relevant CI systems, tools, and computing strategies. Contributes to facilitating the design and debugging of research workflows alongside researchers
- 20% Connects and coordinates interactions between researchers and technology providers. Provides regular communications to and/or collaborates with the systems and software/data professionals regarding service enhancements
- 20% Contributes to the design and content development of documentation, training content, and/or advanced curricula, and instructs at workshops
- 10% Communicates and collaborates with internal collaborators and/or potential external collaborators around facilitation and relevant service models
- 5% May provide consultation and expertise for aspects of research proposals specific to research CI. May serve as a project contributor for a research proposal or Co-Principal Investigator on proposals around facilitation functions
- 5% May contribute to regular communications with researchers and internal stakeholders

Required:
The applicants should have experience in data management systems and be able to build out data structure systems. The ability to assist in installation of software platforms will be of benefit. Be proficient in at least one standard programming language for any development requirements. This individual will need to be self motivated to establish the system at Wisconsin and be able to work as part of a larger team.
Preferred:
Prior experience in establishing and managing a data repository for HIPAA-protected data is desired. Familiarity with Ubuntu operating systems and the ability to code in Python are sought. Prior participation in federally funded projects is also useful. Interests in dynamic consent portals and interests/experience in engaging Tribal Nations in research processes is greatly desired.

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Salary:
Minimum $71,994 ANNUAL (12 months)

The starting salary for this position is $71,994, but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.

Additional Information:
This position is expected to continue through December 9th, 2025. The position may be converted to renewable contingent upon program need, performance, and funding availability.
