Job Summary:

The School of Nursing (SoN) seeks a talented and experienced research administrator to work in our Nursing Research and Sponsored Programs office (NRSP). As a member of our six-person team, this individual will work with SoN researchers to manage the full lifecycle of grants. The ideal candidate will be an organized, detail-oriented person who enjoys working on challenging, time-sensitive projects in a team-based setting. This position interacts with many different units and customers and assists in identifying and implementing quality improvements. The position allows for hybrid work, with a maximum of two days per week or up to 40% of a full-time schedule.

Responsibilities:

Manages research administration activities from proposal preparation through closeout on behalf of a unit. Reviews and approves proposal submissions, contract negotiations, project setups, compliance, and/or financial reporting. Develops and oversees implementation of operations and strategic planning to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements within a school/college/division/unit. May manage a programmatic unit and/or personnel.
  • 20% Executes research administration operational policies and procedures including financial, administrative, staffing, and compliance on behalf of a unit
  • 15% Reviews and approves programmatic transactions spanning the life-cycle of sponsored projects to ensure compliance with institutional and/or sponsor policies and procedures
  • 10% Serves as a key resource to leadership and staff in the unit as well as a liaison to partners and stakeholders
  • 35% Executes activities related to proposal submission, contract negotiation, and/or award setup on behalf of a unit
  • 10% Executes activities related to financial compliance, audit, or reporting on behalf of a unit
  • 5% Provides training to faculty, staff, and/or administrators within the unit regarding policy, procedure, and/or execution of sponsored project administration
  • 5% May have authority to submit proposals, agreements, or invoices to a sponsor on behalf of the principal investigator or project director

Qualifications:

Required
- At least 2 years of experience in research administration or in the public service/non-profit sector, working on grants and/or contracts management
- Proven ability to develop and manage budgets in partnership with cross-functional teams
- Familiarity with federal granting agency policies and procedures
- Experience with financial tracking systems for the development of reports and projections

Preferred
- At least 5 years of experience in research administration or in the public service/non-profit sector, working on grants and/or contracts management
- Familiarity with university accounting policies and procedures, including purchasing, travel, reimbursements, and cost transfers
- Knowledge of research compliance requirements such as IRB review, outside activities reporting, and conflict of interest matters
- Experience with effort tracking and reporting
- Experience with proposal submission and award management guidelines set forth by federal health agencies such as the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), and/or the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)

Work Type:

Full Time: 100%

This position requires most work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. The person in this position may request and be considered for a formal remote work agreement based on guidelines set forth by the School of Nursing, and/or may be provided with remote work flexibility as needed and approved by the supervisor. A remote work agreement will allow for a maximum of two remote days per week.

Minimum $80,000 ANNUAL (12 months)

The expected salary for this position starts at a rate of $80,000. Actual pay will depend on experience and qualifications. In addition to base pay, the employee in this position can expect to receive benefits such as generous vacation, holidays, and other paid time off, competitive insurances and savings accounts, and employer sponsored retirement benefits.
