Job Summary:
The Waisman Center is dedicated to the advancement of knowledge about human development, developmental disabilities, and neurodegenerative diseases throughout the lifespan. One of 15 centers of its kind in the United States, the Waisman Center encompasses laboratories for biomedical and behavioral research, several scientific research cores, and a clinical biomanufacturing facility for the production of pharmaceuticals for early stage human clinical trials. In addition to its research efforts, the Center provides an array of services to people with developmental disabilities, offers numerous educational and outreach programs to young children and their families, and trains scientists and clinicians who will serve our nation in the future.
This position will work within the Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs (CYSHCN), University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD). The mission of the UCEDD is to support the full inclusion and self-determination of people with developmental disabilities and their families through: development of personnel qualified to provide services in the health, education and social service systems; provision of services, technical assistance and the dissemination of information; and the contribution of new knowledge about the causes and prevention of developmental disabilities, the impact of disabilities on individuals and families, and the efficacy of assessment, intervention and support methods.
The Outreach Specialist is responsible for providing information and referral as a Children's Resource Guide with the Children's Resource Center - South. This position will interact with community members such as families and professionals to answer complex and sensitive questions related to a child's delay, disability, or special health care need, and share content and materials about resources. Through established external partnerships, the Outreach Specialist secures new or updated resources and disseminates the information to the team. Additionally, this position is responsible for accurate and timely data entry, and working with the team to regularly evaluate the program and identify areas for improvement.
Responsibilities:
Delivers and assists with planning outreach program activities, strengthens partnerships, ensures adherence to policy, and assists with program administration to promote stable and productive relationships between the university and local community. Strives to expand and ensure access to programs, facilities, and educational services to diverse audiences. May assist with tracking and managing the outreach program budget.
- 5% Identifies, promotes, and maintains external partnerships to support the outreach program
- 15% Schedules and secures resources and communicates logistics in support of an outreach program
- 60% Delivers outreach program content and materials to community members
- 10% Researches, develops, and facilitates outreach program content and materials
- 5% Develops and evaluates curriculum and programs and provides recommendations for improvement
- 5% Contributes to the core functions of the UCEDD, including activities of training/teaching, conducting research, disseminating evidence and best practices, and demonstrating model services.

Education:
Required
Associate's Degree in Social Work, Social Welfare, Social Services, Psychology, Counseling or a related field.
Preferred
Bachelor's Degree in the aforementioned fields or a related field.
Qualifications:
Required Experience:
- One year of experience providing information, resources and referrals to families relevant to the service delivery system for children with special health care needs.
- One year of experience with documentation or data entry to show work completed in service of a consumer/family receiving services.
- Two years of experience interacting with families, consumers, or the general public to provide a service.
Well-qualified applicants will have the following preferred experience:
- Demonstrated competency in the following: strong interpersonal skills, professionalism, ability to maintain confidentiality, team work, and strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Three or more years of experience providing information, resources and referrals to families relevant to the service delivery system for children with special health care needs.
- Experience in serving families through a parent-to-parent or family-centered service organization.
Work Type:
Full or Part Time: 50% - 100%
It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.
Appointment Type, Duration:
Terminal, 7 month appointment.
This position has the possibility to be extended or converted to an ongoing appointment based on need and/or funding
Salary:
Minimum $53,000 ANNUAL (12 months)
Depending on Qualifications
Salary is negotiable and will be based on experience and skills.
Additional Information:
The successful applicant will be responsible for ensuring eligibility for employment in the United States on or before the effective date of the appointment. University sponsorship is not available for this position.
Must complete HIPAA training and receive certification within the first 5 days of employment and annually thereafter.
Reporting requirements must be completed in a timely manner, including but not limited to effort reporting and outside activities reporting.
