Job Summary:
The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in structural dynamics.
We seek candidates with a vision to address societally impactful problems in aerospace, manufacturing, transportation, infrastructure, healthcare, energy, and/or communication, and strengthen and deepen the current research focus areas of the department. Areas of interest include complex mechanical systems, structural dynamics, acoustics and noise control, nonlinear dynamics, reduced-order modeling, system identification, engineered materials and structures.
When appropriate to their research and teaching visions, candidates should leverage experimental and computational assets such as the Wisconsin Centers for Nanoscale Technology, Wisconsin Structures & Materials Testing Laboratory and the Center for High Throughput Computing.

Responsibilities:
Teaching and developing undergraduate and graduate courses in Mechanical Engineering, mentoring graduate students and supervising their research; developing and directing an extramurally funded research program; participating in departmental and university faculty governance; and contributing to professional and public service.

PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related field, with demonstrated excellence in research and teaching in theoretical, numerical and/or experimental dynamics and vibrations.
Qualifications:
Candidates will have a demonstrated record of academic achievement such as peer-reviewed publications and grant awards appropriate for the early career, exceptional potential in establishing a world-class research program and a commitment to high-quality undergraduate and graduate instruction.

The Department offers and fosters a transdisciplinary research and educational environment and provides the infrastructure to address grand technological challenges. Current research areas include advanced materials design and manufacturing; energy, sustainability, and environment; engineering healthcare and biomechanics; intelligent systems and communication; engineering mechanics; control, robotics, and autonomous systems; advanced sensing, analysis, and characterization; and computer-aided engineering.
