Custodial Positions

How to Apply

You must complete a paper application. Print an application below or pick up an application from 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Office of Human Resources:

You can mail or drop off the completed application in person at this same address, or you can scan the paper application and email it to custodianjobs@ohr.wisc.edu. We will send you an email or letter in the mail to tell you that we received your application.

There is no deadline date to apply. Your application will expire after 6 months. After 6 months, you must apply again.


Rate of Pay

Minimum $12.85/hour.

Schedule

Full-time and part-time positions are available in 1st, 2nd and 3rd shifts. Rotating schedules, weekends and holidays may be available.

Job Duties may include

  • Sweeping
  • Vacuuming
  • Mopping
  • Washing windows and walls
  • Dusting
  • Cleaning and sanitizing restrooms, showers and locker rooms
  • Cleaning kitchen and concession areas
  • Collecting and emptying trash and recycled materials
  • Resupplying soap, paper towels, toilet paper and other supplies
  • Doing special projects
  • Setting up meeting rooms and catering events
  • Removing snow
  • Other general and seasonal tasks

Work Settings may include

  • Office buildings
  • Classrooms
  • Dining facilities
  • Athletic facilities
  • Laboratories
  • Healthcare facilities
  • Student center buildings
  • Other locations

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to repeatedly push, pull, reach, bend, twist, stoop, and climb ladders
  • Ability to remember and complete multiple tasks
  • Ability to operate industrial cleaning equipment such as vacuum cleaners, carpet extractors, and electric floor buffers
  • Ability to use cleaning chemicals properly
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds
  • Ability to stand and walk for up to 8 hours

Special Qualifications

  • Some positions require a valid driver’s license which meets UW Risk Management Standards.
  • Some positions require the ability to communicate in English orally or both orally and in writing.
  • A criminal background check will be conducted on job finalists before employment is offered.
